Matzah crack is truly one of my favorite Passover desserts because it combines simplicity with irresistible flavors. The basic recipe involves layering matzah sheets with melted butter and brown sugar to create a caramelized base that is both crunchy and sweet. What makes this treat even better is the option to top it with a variety of chocolates and candies—using premium chocolates like Ghirardelli's milk, dark, or white chocolate can elevate the flavor significantly. In my experience, spreading a generous layer of caramelized sugar mixture over the matzah and then sprinkling it with chopped Hershey's chocolate or Ghirardelli minis before broiling for a few minutes results in a smooth and melty top that hardens into a crack when cooled. Adding colorful M&M's after the chocolate sets creates a fun and festive look, perfect for family gatherings during Passover. One tip is to line your baking pan with foil or parchment paper to make removal easier and keep things from sticking. Once cooled and hardened, break it into bite-sized pieces or bars. This dessert is best served chilled and can be stored in an airtight container for several days without losing its crunch. Although not fully kosher for Passover (KFP) depending on the toppings, it’s very adaptable; you can choose toppings that comply with specific dietary requirements. This flexibility also makes it a favorite to experiment with, allowing you to cater to different tastes and preferences easily. Overall, making matzah crack has always been a quick way to bring a crowd-pleasing dessert to the table, especially when you want something festive yet fuss-free during the Passover holiday.
