Nut milk hack that saves me money 💰💰💰
For my dairy free Lemon8ers, I know you've seen those grocery prices rise! Especially with our cheese, milks, desserts etc.. 😭
Walked into Whole Foods the other day and damn near fought someone, because why is the oat milk I usually buy, $7.49?!
So, I cleaned my Nut Milk Maker off, bought some cashews and macadamia nuts, and started making my own milk again!
I spent $20.28 (Didn't count honey b/c I already had it), and after 2 cycles of nut milk making, I made 32 oz.
Which is super cost effective b/c I go through milk often!
Now let's do some math:
- Store bought milk (in my area and 3 ingredients/no gums): $7.49 for 32 oz. (128 oz a month)
- Buying 2 every 2 weeks is
$7.49 x 4= $29.96 ($359.52 a year)
- Buying ingredients to make it: $8.29+$11.99+$10.99= $31.27 (~$71.27 if you're buying a $40 nut milk machine)
- Making it every 3 days for
1 month: 256 oz
- Re-supplying every 2 month: $31.27 ($187.62 a year)
🛒 To buy milk at the store would cost me $29.96 every month
(128 oz)
🥜 Making it would cost me $31.27 every 2 months (512 oz)
For me, it's more cost effective to make nut milk, until these prices come back down.
I was paying for nut milk because it was a convenient grab & go.
**Note: this is based on the high side prices of ingredients. You can definitely get a bag of nuts for like $4-$7 and honey for like $5-$9. And you can use a blender and not buy a nut milk machine
