I’m Going Back… But I’m Moving Different. 🤍

Today, I go back to work after being away for nearly a month.

And if I’m being completely transparent… I have a lot of feelings about it.

There’s anxiety.

There’s uncertainty.

There’s that knot in my stomach that keeps reminding me I’m walking back into a place I needed time away from.

But there’s something else, too.

I’m not walking back in the same.

This time away forced me to get quiet.

To realize how much I was carrying.

How much access I was giving people to my peace.

How often I felt like I had to explain myself, defend myself, fix everything, carry everything, and somehow still smile while doing it.

And somewhere in the quiet, I started realizing:

Maybe growth doesn’t always look like becoming louder.

Sometimes growth looks like learning to move different.

I don’t have to respond to everything.

I don’t have to prove my heart to people committed to misunderstanding it.

I don’t have to carry responsibilities that were never mine.

I don’t have to sacrifice myself just to prove that I’m strong enough to handle it.

And I don’t have to walk back into an old environment with old habits just because they’re familiar.

God gave me this time for a reason.

Maybe it wasn’t simply time away.

Maybe it was time to learn how to come back.

With boundaries.

With discernment.

With a softer heart but a stronger backbone.

With less need to be understood.

With more trust in God.

And with a peace I’m learning not to hand over so easily.

So today, I’m praying something different.

Not, “God, make everything easy when I go back.”

But—

“God, help me move differently when it isn’t.”

Guard my mouth when silence is wiser.

Guard my heart when something feels personal.

Give me discernment about what deserves my attention and what deserves my distance.

Remind me that I can be kind without abandoning my boundaries.

And when I feel myself slipping back into survival mode, remind me of everything You showed me in the quiet.

I don’t know what today will look like.

But I know I don’t have to walk into it alone.

**Same building.

Same job.

Same people, maybe.

But not the same me.**

I’m moving different this time. 🤍

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

— Isaiah 26:3

... Read moreTaking a step back from work or any demanding environment can often feel daunting, especially when you're faced with anxiety and uncertainty about what’s to come. From my own experience, stepping away for a while isn’t just about rest — it’s really about learning how to return stronger and wiser. During my break, I realized how much emotional weight I had been carrying: constant explanations, defending myself, and shouldering responsibilities that weren’t mine to bear. This weighed heavily on my peace, often leaving me exhausted despite appearing composed on the outside. What helped me most was embracing the idea that growth doesn't always require louder actions or proving my worth to others. Sometimes, growth means setting clear boundaries and choosing when to speak and when to remain silent. This intentionality helps guard your heart and energy, especially when navigating old environments and relationships that once drained you. Trusting God played a crucial role in my transformation. Instead of asking for an easy path, I learned to pray for the wisdom to "move differently" amid challenges, relying on discernment to know what deserves my attention and where to maintain distance. This shift allowed me to approach the workplace — same building, same job, same people — but with a new temperament and resilience. If you’re returning to a familiar place after needing space, consider how you can protect your peace by defining your boundaries, embracing a softer heart combined with a firmer backbone, and nurturing faith over fear. You don’t have to carry old habits or sacrifices just because they’re familiar. Instead, trust the quiet moments to guide you in walking confidently into this new season, believing that perfect peace comes to those whose minds remain steadfast in their trust.
