why i’m no longer clothes shopping šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

that is a ginormous donate pile and i’m constantly making these. while some of that stuff is old and worn, a lot of it was bought in the last year…. some of it the last 3-6 months.

i struggle with impulse shopping, + over and unintentional spending.

i’ve tried to move into the minimalist mindset, and that is an end goal for me, but i’m not sure how realistic it is for me right now.

i’d like to cut out most of my shopping but baby steps, im starting with clothes and taking it seriously. i’ve been good lately with only getting items i need and I think i’ve got myself set for a while now.

here’s the first step of a journey to a better and more fulfilling life šŸ¤žšŸ¼šŸ«¶šŸ¼

... Read moreIt's so relatable to look at a huge pile of clothes and realize how much impulse shopping has impacted your wardrobe and your wallet. I've been there too, staring at a closet bursting with items I barely wear, many still with tags! My journey to really cut back on clothing purchases has taught me a few things that might help you on your own path to decluttering and a more mindful wardrobe. First, let's talk about the actual decluttering process for that 'donate pile'. It can feel overwhelming, but breaking it down helps. I like to use the 'KonMari' method as a starting point, but with a personal twist. Instead of just asking if it 'sparks joy,' I also ask myself: 'Have I worn this in the last year?', 'Does it truly fit my current style?', and 'Do I feel good and confident when I wear it?' Be honest with yourself! If the answer is no to most of these, it's a strong candidate for the donation pile. Don't forget about those 'just in case' items – chances are, if it's been 'just in case' for years, you probably don't need it. Once you've identified what to let go of, consider local charities, consignment stores, or even organizing a clothing swap with friends. Giving clothes a second life is so much better than them ending up in a landfill. Next, tackling impulse shopping is a marathon, not a sprint. One strategy that has seriously helped me reduce my 'reducing clothing purchases' habit is implementing a '30-day rule.' If I see something I want, I add it to a wishlist and wait 30 days. More often than not, after a month, the urge has passed, or I've realized I have something similar already. Another game-changer for me was unfollowing fast fashion brands and influencers who promote constant consumption. Instead, I started following accounts focused on sustainable fashion, capsule wardrobes, and mindful living. It really shifted my perspective. Finally, if you're leaning into minimalism, even just for your clothes, the 'one in, one out' rule is fantastic. It means every time you buy a new item (after careful consideration, of course!), an old item has to leave your closet. This forces you to be incredibly intentional about new purchases and prevents your wardrobe from overflowing again. For me, creating a capsule wardrobe has been a revelation. Having fewer, higher-quality pieces that mix and match easily has simplified my mornings and reduced decision fatigue. It's not about deprivation; it's about having a functional, beautiful wardrobe that genuinely serves you, rather than just taking up space. Embracing these steps has made my closet feel so much lighter and my mind clearer. It's truly a journey towards a more fulfilling and less cluttered life.
