the haunting of sunshine girl series: review!

warning: i am not good at book reviews!

The Haunting of Sunshine Girl… Growing up, I remember sitting at the family computer, completely terrified while watching this Youtube channel. There was the time my mom came in through the back door at the same time Sunshine goes, “What’s up, Bitches?!” My face grew red, not expecting the curse word to come from the channel right in front of my mom.

This channel was my comfort channel, and I still find myself going back every once in a while to rewatch the videos and feel the nostalgia. The first book was release on March 24, 2015, the day right before my thirteenth birthday. As the books came out, I bought every one. I finished the first one, but not the second—until recently.

While reading it, I did recognize that this was not fitting for me personally the way it would have in my teen years but I still enjoyed the books and am happy that I finally read all three completely. I did include the age range that google says when searching the book, but I think it works for every age!

Overall, I am happy I read this! Sunshine Girl was a huge part of my childhood and shaped me as a tween, teen, and even shaped parts of my adult self. 🤍❤️ #sunshinegirl #booktok #BookReview #bookrecommendations #books

... Read moreThe Haunting of Sunshine Girl series, penned by Paige McKenzie, stands out as a unique blend of supernatural horror and coming-of-age storytelling that resonates deeply with its audience. The trilogy—comprising The Awakening of Sunshine Girl, The Haunting of Sunshine Girl, and The Sacrifice of Sunshine Girl—captures the challenges of adolescence through the lens of paranormal activity and self-discovery. Aimed primarily at readers aged 12 and up, the series has earned its place on The New York Times bestseller list, solidifying its significance in young adult literature. The books deftly combine elements of horror with relatable teenage experiences, making them accessible and engaging to a wide range of readers beyond the typical YA demographic. The narrative follows Sunshine Girl, whose life intertwines with mysterious hauntings and psychological intrigue. The author's dedication is evident across the series, creating a community for fans affectionately known as "Sunshiners." This community adds an interactive and supportive layer for readers, enhancing their connection with the story. More than just spooky tales, the series promotes themes of resilience, identity, and the emotional turbulence of growing up. This has helped the books serve as a source of comfort and nostalgia, as seen in personal reflections about the impact the series has on its readers during their formative years and even into adulthood. In conclusion, The Haunting of Sunshine Girl series offers more than just scares. It presents a thoughtful exploration of adolescence intertwined with supernatural elements, appealing to readers interested in horror, personal growth, and the power of storytelling. Whether new to the books or longtime fans revisiting the story, this series remains a compelling and enriching experience.
