Spooky places in Pennsylvania ✨

This month i took a trip to Pennsylvania. My goal was to make it to as many haunted, spooky, strange and unusual places a possible!

Here are 10 of my favorite spots! Each one had its own ghost story!

The Inn at Jim Thorpe: This place was giving French quarter vibes on the outside but grandma’s attic on the inside! A stunning historical building filled with memories still standing to serve and comfort travelers.

The Asa Packer Mansion and Museum: this mansion watches over the whole town. As the sun rises in the morning its unique colors and intricate details come to light!

The Harry Packer Mansion: sitting next to the Asa Packer mansion the Harry Packer mansion hides amongst the greenery and shadows. Also beautifully built but you can sense some spooky vibes. This place actually inspired Disneys haunted mansion movie!

The Old Jail Museum: although the jail was small its holds a big story! A visit to the museum informed us of its dark and spooky history.

Mauch Chunck Cemetary: I didn’t have much time to wander but it was worth pulling over to admire the unique headstones

Eastern State Penitentiary: after all these years and everything it’s been through this building still stands tall and strong as it ever was! From Al Capone to Pep the dog there’s a lifetime of stories to be told.

The American Treasure Tour Museum: I knew I would enjoy this place but I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it so much. There’s something way more scary about dolls, animatronics, and old carousel music than there is about prison, cemeteries, and haunted hotels…

Farnsworth House: Not only can you visit a museum to learn about the homes tragic history but you can enjoy a tasty meal next door AND sleep in one of the rooms!

Sachs Covered Bridge: I don’t know much about the history here but a covered bridge will always remind me of the headless horseman! (Thanks sleepy hallow)

There will be multiple more post about this trip to PA! More photographs and in depth descriptions of these places! Visit my page for more fun places I’ve visited!

You know, the one right next to the grand Asa Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe? Walking up to it, nestled amongst those old trees and shrouded in what felt like a permanent, intriguing shadow, you can immediately feel that a place with such a rich history holds more than just beautiful architecture. It truly does give off those classic spooky vibes, even in broad daylight! There's a certain grandeur mixed with a subtle, almost melancholic, atmosphere that's genuinely captivating. I was so fascinated to learn that this stunning Victorian Gothic mansion, built by Harry Packer (Asa Packer's son) in the late 19th century, is widely rumored to be a direct inspiration for Disney's iconic Haunted Mansion. As soon as I saw it, I could absolutely see the resemblance! Its dramatic, imposing facade, intricate details like gargoyles and turrets, and that grand, slightly eerie presence truly echo the aesthetic that Disney Imagineers are famous for. It’s like a real-life, grand, slightly eerie fairytale castle, and knowing that connection just amplified the magic and mystery for me. Just standing there, imagining the stories within its ornate walls, the lavish parties, and perhaps even unexplained occurrences, gave me goosebumps. The local lore and history surrounding it are just as captivating as its striking appearance. What makes the Harry Packer Mansion even more unique is that it's not just a museum you walk through; it operates as a luxurious bed & breakfast! Imagine spending a night in a place with such a captivating, potentially haunted past. They even host popular murder mystery weekends, which sounds like the ultimate immersive spooky experience for a thrill-seeker like me. While I didn't get to stay overnight this particular trip, it's absolutely at the top of my list for a return visit. It offers a completely different kind of engagement than simply touring a historical site – you become part of its ongoing story, if only for a night. If you're planning your own visit to Jim Thorpe, I highly recommend dedicating ample time to explore both the Harry Packer and Asa Packer Mansions. The town itself is incredibly charming, often called the "Switzerland of America," with its steep hills and Victorian architecture, and a rich coal mining history that adds another layer of intrigue. Combining a visit to the mansions with a stroll through the quaint streets, perhaps a stop at the Old Jail Museum for another dose of local history, and even a quick look at Mauch Chunk Cemetery for its unique headstones, really completes the historical and spooky immersion. The Harry Packer Mansion, in particular, left such a lasting impression on me – it’s a definite must-see for anyone chasing those fascinating, eerie echoes of the past in Pennsylvania and seeking a truly unique, atmospheric experience.

I went to sachs covered bridge. They say you can hear voices over the bridge sometimes. Sometimes from the people that had passed from the war.
