Memoirs of Vienna 🇦🇹

As memories start to decay to time, memoirs serve as a reminder to myself that I lived through these experiences :)

✴️2D2N in Vienna in 2019✴️

🌟Occasion: Part of my circuit around central Europe while on exchange (Austria-Germany-Czech Republic-Germany)

😎 Vibes: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

➡️ Notable memories

🔸/Belvedere Palace

- first palace (Pic 1-2) visited on Day 1 after arriving in the morning, had quite the huge palace garden at the back thats all I remembered

🔸/Prater

- an amusement park in the city! supposedly famous but when we went there it had very little people 🤔 play one or two rides and left

🔸/St. Charles's Church

- bought a ticket for the church night orchestra performance for 12 Euros, was ok I guess if its just to chill

🔸/Naschmarkt

- spend the morning hunting for breakfast here! like an english open market i guess? had a schnitzel (pic 6) here which was d r y af 😔

🔸/Schönbrunn Palace

- second palace on day 2 (pic 7)! this palace's ground is alot bigger since it is out of the city center but didn really take much good photos then.. spent the whole afternoon walking around its grounds but tbh all palace feels the same inside

🔸/St. Stephen's Cathedral and /Stephansplatz

- went back to the city center in Stephansplatz and window shopped cause we poor

- can go up St Stephen Cathedral spire to have a birds eye view over the city!

🔸/Maria-Theresien-Platz and /MuseumsQuartier Wien

- no good pictures taken here because it was night time already and phones night shots are 🤮 then, but its an big area where all the national and fine arts museums in the city are centered

🔺Besides the schnitzel... cant remember what I ate in this trip tbh. there are also pockets of time where i remember doing something but forget already.

🔺Took a flixbus and left for Prague after the 2nd night

🤔 Reflection

🔸all in all, I think Vienna was a great experience and I would not have thought to come here by myself. the city is chill and quiet, never felt unsafe as well as compared to some other western cities. would defo recommend to friends, if nothing significant has changed since then

... Read moreVienna, the capital of Austria, is renowned for its imperial palaces, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant culinary scene. This 2-day travel memoir captures some of the must-visit sights and experiences when exploring Vienna on a short trip. Belvedere Palace, one of the first stops, is a historic Baroque palace complex famous for its vast gardens and art collections including Gustav Klimt’s "The Kiss." Visitors can enjoy the expansive palace grounds and beautiful views, which leave a lasting impression. A stroll through Prater amusement park offers a glimpse into Vienna’s recreational culture. Though the park may sometimes feel quiet, its iconic giant Ferris wheel—Wiener Riesenrad—is symbolic of the city, providing panoramic views. St. Charles's Church hosts unique night orchestra performances that add a serene cultural layer to a visitor’s itinerary. Meanwhile, Naschmarkt serves as Vienna’s vibrant open-air market that offers a variety of local and international foods. Sampling the famous Viennese schnitzel here, despite mixed reviews on its preparation, is a typical culinary adventure. Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rivals the grandeur of the Belvedere. It is one of Europe’s most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments, with vast gardens perfect for afternoon walks. While palace interiors can seem similar, the rich history and opulent design are remarkable. St. Stephen's Cathedral and its surrounding Stephansplatz are focal points for sightseeing and shopping. Climbing the cathedral’s spire rewards tourists with breathtaking bird’s-eye city views. Maria-Theresien-Platz and MuseumsQuartier form Vienna’s cultural hub, housing several prominent museums and galleries. Though nighttime visits may challenge photography, these locations are central to understanding Vienna’s art and history. Travelers looking for budget-friendly and safe European cities often find Vienna accommodating, offering a calm atmosphere combined with rich experiences. The author’s reflections showcase Vienna as an ideal destination for exchange students and first-time visitors. For anyone planning a trip to Vienna, balancing historical site visits with market explorations and cultural performances can create an enriching two-day itinerary. Pre-booking tickets for popular concerts or palace tours is recommended to maximize experience. Additionally, exploring nearby cities like Prague by bus enhances the Central European travel circuit. Incorporating local tips on food, transport, and sightseeing can elevate any Vienna travel experience. Despite some culinary misses like a dry schnitzel, embracing the local flavors and historic sites offers lasting memories of this enchanting city.
