Snippets from my sabbatical - Bergen and Flam

Hi dear readers,

The end of yet another year has left me in a very reflective mood, so sharing the next part of my sabbatical.

After leaving the Lofoten Islands, we took a flight from Bodø to Bergen! Bergen is Norway’s second largest city and it’s famous for its colourful wharf (a bit similar to Copenhagen’s Nyhavn). There are quite a few mountains nearby and you can take the funicular to have a birds eye view of the city. Seafood here is also very fresh as they are located near the coast, so do give it a try when you are here!

Bergen also serves as the gateway to the fjords a you can rent a car to drive to go Flam where you get to see breathtaking fjord scenery. There is also a very cool Viking themed brewpub called Ægir BrewPub which serves pretty good beer! After visiting Flam, I would recommend driving over to Stegastein where you have an awesome view (refer to the last 3 photos)

The more I look back at these photos when I am preparing these posts, the more i am considering taking a break again next year haha so I will need for the market to stay its course and continue to move up. Do feel free to let me know if you have any questions or planning a trip up to Bergen and Flam! Happy to share more.

... Read moreIf you're planning a trip to Norway, Bergen and Flam should definitely be on your itinerary beyond the well-known Lofoten Islands. Bergen, known for its colorful wharf area reminiscent of Copenhagen's Nyhavn, offers charming streets, lively markets, and excellent seafood sourced from the nearby coast. For panoramic city views, taking the funicular up one of the surrounding mountains is a rewarding experience. Flam, accessible from Bergen by car, sits deep in the fjord region and is perfect for nature lovers. Driving to Stegastein viewpoint from Flam provides spectacular vistas over the fjords that are unforgettable. When visiting Flam, don’t miss stopping at Ægir BrewPub, a Viking-themed spot serving local craft beers that add a unique cultural flavor to your trip. Aside from sightseeing, consider renting a car to explore more remote fjord roads at your own pace, and try local delicacies like fresh shrimp or cod. The combination of urban charm, scenic nature, and local culture makes Bergen and Flam ideal destinations when searching for the best places to visit in Norway. Lastly, based on my personal experience, these locations offer stunning photo opportunities and peaceful retreats away from the busier tourist spots. If you want a memorable trip full of Norwegian culture, stunning landscapes, and friendly locals, Bergen and Flam won’t disappoint.
