My summer skin routine✨
The warm weather season is quickly approaching and it’s time to get ready to transition our skin care routines! If you’re anything like me then whatever works for you in the winter doesn’t work for you in the summer so you have to switch it up!
Okay, so you’ve seen my intro about switching up your routine for summer, but let's dive deeper into why it's so important and exactly what you can do to keep your skin happy and healthy when the temperatures rise! For me, summer means more sweat, more sun exposure, and often, a little more oiliness. What worked during the dry winter days just doesn't cut it anymore. Why Your Summer Routine Needs a Glow-Up Think about it – in winter, we're battling dryness and cold winds. Our skin barrier needs heavy-duty protection. In summer, the focus shifts to controlling oil, preventing sun damage, and keeping things light and breathable. Plus, humidity can make heavier products feel really uncomfortable. My Go-To Summer Skincare Essentials (for that 'at home' glow!) Gentle Cleansing is Key: This is where my "Cerave Foaming" cleanser truly shines. It's fantastic for removing excess oil, sweat, and sunscreen without stripping my skin. I use it both morning and night. For a refreshing boost, sometimes I’ll even do a quick cleanse midday if I've been really active. It's part of my essential "skin care routine in summer at home." Vitamin C Serum – Your Summer Bestie: If you're not using a Vitamin C serum, summer is the time to start! It helps protect against environmental damage, brightens your complexion, and can even help fade dark spots. I apply mine after cleansing and before moisturizing. It’s a true game-changer for getting that radiant summer glow. Lightweight Hydration is a Must: Ditch the heavy creams! For summer, I reach for a lighter moisturizer, often something like a gel-cream or a lighter "Cerave Facial" lotion. Even if you have oily skin, you still need to moisturize in summer. Dehydration can actually trigger more oil production. For those with "dry skin" in summer, look for hydrating serums with hyaluronic acid layered under a lightweight cream. Don't think just because it's humid, your dry skin won't need attention! Non-Negotiable SPF: This is probably the single most important step in any summer "skin care routine." I apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 (or higher!) every single morning, rain or shine. And I reapply throughout the day, especially if I’m spending time outdoors. Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is crucial for preventing premature aging, sunspots, and far more serious issues. Exfoliation (But Be Gentle!): Regular, gentle exfoliation helps keep your skin smooth and prevents clogged pores from sweat and sunscreen. For my body, I sometimes use a gentle body scrub or even a "glimmer natural loofah" with my shower gel a couple of times a week. It helps shed dead skin cells and keeps my skin feeling soft, especially before applying self-tanner or just for that fresh feeling. Just remember not to overdo it, especially if you’re spending a lot of time in the sun. Don't Forget Your Lips & Eyes: The delicate skin around your eyes and lips needs protection too. I always use an eye cream with SPF during the day and a hydrating lip balm, especially one with SPF. A Quick Word on 'Aquaph' While not directly a summer routine step, I find products like Aquaphor incredibly useful for targeted spots, like chapped lips after too much sun, or even on cuticles. It's a great multi-purpose balm to have around for those little dry patches that pop up, even in summer! This "summer skin care routine" has truly transformed how my skin feels and looks during the warmer months. It’s all about finding what works for your skin type and being consistent. Give these tips a try and let me know how your skin glows this summer!
