Homemade Chinese Night Recipe🍖
Serves: ~5 people
Ingredients
• 3 lbs boneless pork ribs, cut into bite-size pieces
• ½ cup hoisin sauce
• 1 cup brown sugar
• ½ cup soy sauce
• ½ cup ketchup
• ⅓ cup honey
• 3 tbsp butter
• 1–2 tbsp sesame oil (for cooking)
• 1 tbsp sesame seed oil (for flavor at the end)
• 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
• 3–4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
• Vegetable red food dye (optional, for takeout color)
• Sesame seeds (optional, garnish)
⸻
Instructions
1. Make the sauce
In a saucepan, combine hoisin sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, ketchup, honey, butter, ginger, and garlic.
Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring often.
2. Thicken the sauce
Reduce heat to low and simmer 10–15 minutes, until thick and glossy.
Turn off heat and let cool slightly.
3. Prepare the ribs
While the sauce cools, cut the ribs into bite-size pieces and place them in a bowl.
Add a small amount of sauce (about ½ cup) and mix to lightly coat.
Add food dye a drop at a time until you reach the classic red color (optional).
4. Cook the ribs
Heat sesame oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium heat.
Add ribs, cover, and cook until fully cooked and tender (about 15–20 minutes), stirring occasionally.
5. Drain & glaze
Drain excess liquid from the ribs.
Return ribs to the pot, add the remaining sauce, and toss until fully coated and sticky.
Drizzle in sesame seed oil, mix well, and cook uncovered for 2–3 minutes to caramelize.
6. Finish
Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot.
