the forgotten saga dlc, temporary things that you lose after each run.
Wow, diving into Assassin's Creed Valhalla: The Forgotten Saga DLC has been such an experience! When I first heard about it being a free roguelite expansion, I admit I was a bit skeptical. After all, Valhalla's other major DLCs, Wrath of the Druids and Dawn of Ragnarök, offered massive new open worlds and epic story campaigns. But 'The Forgotten Saga' quickly proved itself to be something truly special and a fantastic addition to the world of *VIDEO GAMES*. The core of this DLC, as the original post briefly mentions, revolves around the idea of 'temporary things that you lose after each run.' This is where the roguelite element shines! Unlike the main game where you meticulously upgrade Eivor's gear, here, you start each attempt in Niflheim with basic equipment. As you progress, you find new weapons, armor, and powerful abilities, but the catch is, most of these are lost upon death or completing a run. It creates an incredible sense of tension and forces you to adapt your strategy on the fly. I remember one run where I got an amazing combo of runes early on, only to lose it all to a tricky boss! It definitely makes you sweat. However, it’s not all about loss. There are permanent upgrades you unlock with a special currency called Thoughts, which you collect during your runs. These persistent advancements – like extra health, more starting currency, or improved chances for better gear – make each subsequent attempt feel a little easier and more hopeful. It’s that satisfying progression loop that keeps me coming back. I found myself strategizing not just for the current run, but for how to maximize my permanent gains for the next one. This balance between temporary power and permanent progress is what makes 'The Forgotten Saga' so compelling. Now, regarding the big question: Is 'The Forgotten Saga' the best AC Valhalla DLC? For me, it’s definitely a strong contender, especially considering it was a free update. While Wrath of the Druids delivered a captivating narrative in Ireland and Dawn of Ragnarök expanded on the mythical Norse sagas with new divine powers, 'The Forgotten Saga' offers a completely different gameplay loop. It’s a pure challenge mode, focusing on combat prowess and tactical decision-making rather than exploration or narrative. If you enjoy high-stakes combat and a fresh take on Valhalla's mechanics, I think you'll love it. Personally, after finishing the main story and the other expansions, this roguelite mode was exactly the fresh breath of air I needed. It’s a testament to the versatility that can be found within modern *VIDEO GAMES*.
