Book Review #19

Book Review # 19 📖

I was so excited to dive into this book after rereading The Hunger Games original series. I had heard that this book was slower so I expected it to not be super action packed. The details were okay and the character development of Coriolanus was fantastic! But I got super bored halfway through and really just wanted to finish it so I could move on to Sunrise on The Reaping. Nothing really caught my attention. No comparison to the original books! The twist at the end with Coriolanus and Lucy Gray was CRAZY though! Great wrap up to their story and a perfect start to him becoming a villain. Overall 3/5. Definitely wouldn’t read again but happy I finished it.

... Read moreIn 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes', Suzanne Collins invites readers back to the world of Panem to explore the early life of Coriolanus Snow, setting the stage for his rise to power. This prequel explores themes of ambition, survival, and morality, all within the context of the Hunger Games universe. Readers can expect a slower-paced narrative compared to the original series, with a focus on character depth rather than action. While some may find the pacing tedious, Collins enriches the story through the psychological conflict within Coriolanus as he grapples with his responsibilities as a mentor to Lucy Gray, a tribute from District 12. As tensions rise in the arena, the book emphasizes the attributes that define one’s character in times of despair and competition. Collins effectively intertwines social commentary about class struggle and the price of power, engaging readers in a compelling dialogue about the nature of heroism and villainy. Given the dramatic twist at the end, where personal loyalties conflict with overarching ambitions, 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' serves to both intrigue and frustrate fans of the series, making it a thought-provoking read that sets the stage for future narratives in the beloved Hunger Games saga.
