Speaking of colors, I've had so many people ask me about 'rat colors' since I started sharing my patch club journey. While our club creates artistic interpretations, it made me really think about the variety of colors you see in real rats, and how that translates into art. For instance, the little rat with a pumpkin on one of the cards from a previous month – the artist probably thought about classic brown or grey rat fur, but then might have added a pop of orange for the pumpkin, making the design really stand out! Or the rat holding a flower – imagine the contrast of a soft grey rat against a vibrant red or yellow bloom. That's the beauty of art and design in these patches! I've been collecting these patches, and each month brings a new surprise. For just $8 a month, you get these beautifully designed items. Last month, I received the November design, an elegant egret patch. The artist used such subtle blues and whites, it really captured the bird's grace. And before that, the October frog patch was just adorable, with bright greens and expressive eyes. It’s not always about rats, but the 'Rat Patch Club' name has such a charming ring to it, and there's always a touch of that whimsical rat spirit in the overall aesthetic. Some of my favorites are the Blue rats, which aren't really blue but a beautiful slate grey, and Mink rats with their rich, dark brown coats. There are also striking Siamese rats with darker points on their nose, ears, and tail, similar to Siamese cats, and even unique markings like Hooded or Berkshire patterns. Knowing these real-life variations really makes you appreciate the artistic choices when someone designs a 'rat patch.' It makes me wonder if future patches might feature different 'rat colors' or patterns! Imagine a patch illustrating a sleek black rat, or a whimsical blue one. You can even see how these patches are sewn onto the front of shirts, like the frog patch I saw someone wear – the colors just pop!
