Mushrooms Pt.2🍄‍🟫

The pure excitement I felt when I spotted this on the trail up ahead! The more I examined this beautiful moss covered log with over 100 mushrooms, the more neat things appeared. I got to see not 1, not 2 but 3 slugs enjoying the beautiful day. They were all having a lunch date🤭 the first slug was enjoying his mushroom so much he slithered inside it!

I cannot wait to share the photos that were taken with the camera. I got some very up close photos of the snails. The amount of detail I was able to captured is amazing.

Without a doubt, this was my favorite mushroom family to meet!

... Read moreIf you're searching for a fantastic outdoor escape in Claremont, Thompson Creek Trail is definitely worth exploring! My recent 6-mile adventure there was truly memorable, and while I stumbled upon some incredible mushroom and slug sightings (you wouldn't believe the moss-covered logs bursting with life!), there's so much more to love about this trail. For anyone planning a visit, Thompson Creek Trail offers a relatively easy to moderate experience, perfect for a leisurely walk, a jog, or a longer hike like mine. It's mostly flat, following the creek, which makes it very accessible for families and even those new to hiking. You'll find yourself surrounded by lush greenery, especially after some rain, with beautiful oak trees providing shade along much of the path. The sound of the creek is incredibly soothing, making it a perfect spot to de-stress and reconnect with nature. One of my favorite things about this trail is how much hidden beauty you can find if you just slow down and look closely. Beyond the main path, keep an eye out for those fascinating details on the forest floor. I was captivated by the clusters of light-colored, round mushrooms with textured caps growing on decaying logs, just like the ones I mentioned in my main post. It's amazing how many different types of fungi thrive in the moist environment, especially among the green moss. And yes, if you're lucky and observant, you might just spot some adorable slugs or even tiny snails exploring their miniature worlds on these mossy surfaces – they're surprisingly captivating! The OCR descriptions of moss-covered logs densely populated with numerous light-colored, round mushrooms perfectly capture the magic you can find. Practically speaking, I'd recommend wearing comfortable shoes (trail runners are usually fine here) and bringing plenty of water, especially on warmer days. While much of the trail is shaded, some sections can be exposed. Parking is usually pretty straightforward near the trailhead in Claremont, but it's always good to check local signs or look up specific access points beforehand. Autumn and spring are particularly beautiful times to visit, when the weather is mild and the foliage is vibrant. The trail truly comes alive after some rain, when the moss is greener and the fungi are more abundant. Don't forget your camera, as there are countless opportunities for lovely nature photography, whether it’s wide shots of the scenic path or macro close-ups of the tiny inhabitants, just like I did with those slugs and snails on the textured wood and moss. The peaceful atmosphere makes it ideal for slowing down and practicing mindful observation. Whether you're seeking solitude, a family outing, or just a dose of fresh air, Thompson Creek Trail isn't just a path; it's a living, breathing ecosystem waiting to be discovered, offering a peaceful escape right in Claremont. You might even find your own little "Eye of the Needle / Ship Rock" moment, though the real treasures are often in the smallest details. It’s a wonderful resource for the community, and every visit feels like a new discovery. I always leave feeling refreshed and inspired by the natural beauty around me. Seriously, if you're in the area and love a good walk amidst nature's quiet wonders, this trail won't disappoint!
