I remember when I first started my self-love journey, it was about more than just looking good—it was about feeling good, being genuine, and honoring my own story, scars and all. It’s about nutrition that supports not just the body but also the mind and spirit. One critical lesson I learned was to be patient and gentle with myself, accepting the changes my body and mind went through, especially during challenging times. Instead of hiding behind filters or perfection, I allowed myself to be seen with all my imperfections—because that is real love. Food became a form of self-care; not restrictive dieting, but nourishing meals that fueled my wellness and brought comfort. Healing is often non-linear. There were ups and downs, moments of doubt and frustration, but embracing hashtags like #lovingyourself2018 and #healinginprogress reminded me I was part of a broader community journeying toward self-acceptance. Particularly, for Black women, healing takes on additional layers of cultural and historical significance, and it’s important to honor that by sharing stories, acknowledging struggles, and celebrating resilience. Today, I hold space for my own journey and encourage others to do the same. Embrace your path without filters or shame. Let your real body and real life be what you love and nourish—not for anyone else, but for yourself. It’s a daily choice to show up as your authentic self and to value your worth beyond societal pressures.
