One of the main challenges is overcoming traditional fitness norms that often don’t consider neurodivergent experiences or gender diversity. For instance, many fitness programs emphasize rigid routines and high sensory environments, which can be overwhelming for individuals with ADHD or sensory sensitivities tied to AUDHD. Adjusting workouts to include flexibility, sensory-friendly spaces, and mindfulness has been crucial to maintaining engagement and well-being. Another important aspect is representation. Seeing nonbinary trainers or those who openly discuss neurodivergence in fitness roles provides immense validation and inspiration. It shows that fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all and encourages others to bring their whole selves into their health journey. In terms of practical strategies, I’ve learned to prioritize structure while allowing for adaptability—using timers or apps to manage focus during workouts, incorporating movement types that channel excess energy, and taking intentional breaks to avoid burnout. The intersection of being nonbinary also means breaking free from gendered expectations around exercise, cultivating a space where everyone's body and needs are respected. Overall, blending these identities has enriched my approach to personal training, making it more inclusive and responsive. Fitness becomes not just about physical health, but also about embracing neurodiversity and gender diversity, advocating for self-acceptance, and promoting mental wellness alongside physical strength.
