... Read moreFrom my own experience, makeup has often been more than just a way to enhance physical appearance; it has been a vital coping mechanism during challenging times. When dealing with feelings of sadness or after an intense therapy session that triggers emotional release, engaging in a makeup routine can provide structure and a sense of control. This approach gives me something positive to focus on, helping to redirect my thoughts away from overwhelming emotions. The process of applying makeup allows me to slow down and be mindful of each step, which in itself can be calming. It gives me a tangible way to express creativity and lift my mood when words feel insufficient. I find that the transformation I see in the mirror after completing my makeup motivates me not to dwell on my tears but to embrace a renewed sense of self. Makeup becomes a tool for empowerment rather than just cosmetic enhancement. Moreover, having this ritual helps me deal with the vulnerability that often accompanies therapy sessions. It offers an incentive to push through difficult moments by providing a goal—finishing the look—that helps me regain composure. In doing so, it supports my mental health by offering a constructive outlet during emotional lows. While makeup isn’t a replacement for professional help, combining personal care rituals like this with therapy can form a holistic approach to managing mental health challenges. If you are someone who struggles with similar feelings, consider how small daily habits, like a makeup routine, could contribute to your overall well-being. It might offer you a moment of relief and a way to reclaim strength on tough days.
