One of the aftermath of my postpartum experiences was loosing interest in the one thing that made me smile while doing it, and that is painting….

It wasn’t just a hobby it was my profession one of the sources of my livelihood, but I lost it in the journey of becoming a mother. Some days I would force myself to look at a canvas and try to paint, but nothing was coming, no inspiration whatsoever!

I don’t regret any of my journey, the time I spent away from my art was used to discover aspects of myself I never really knew existed!

Becoming a mother gave me a lot of depth , my view of life has changed tremendously. In my journey of becoming, I fell in love with neuroscience and has ever since been interested in the human brain and how it works in tandem with other parts of the body!

I think what is called a pregnancy brain is more like your brain having a major reset while preparing you to become a mother, and if handled correctly that change can transform one into a superhuman! Stay tuned as I continue to rediscover my art!😊.

... Read morePostpartum can deeply affect creative energies, as many artists find their inspiration challenged during this life-changing time. From personal experience, I noticed my creative block wasn’t simply a loss of desire but a shift in mental focus. This period became an opportunity to explore neuroscience, which helped me understand the brain's remarkable adaptability during motherhood. The concept often called 'pregnancy brain' isn't just forgetfulness; it's the brain undergoing a significant reset to prepare for the challenges and rewards of motherhood. This functional rewiring supports emotional and cognitive changes necessary to nurture a child. Embracing this change rather than resisting it can unlock new levels of creativity and productivity. I found that integrating this knowledge into my daily routine allowed me to reconnect with painting gradually. Instead of forcing creativity, I gave myself permission to explore different art forms and themes inspired by motherhood and brain science. Using watercolour, a medium I once loved, became a way to express the profound emotional depth I felt. For those in similar situations, I recommend embracing the shifts your brain goes through post-pregnancy. Create without pressure, allow natural evolution in your style, and use your new insights into brain function as inspirations. This approach can not only revive a stalled artistic career but also turn motherhood into a unique creative superpower. Finally, patience and self-compassion are essential. Every artist's journey through postpartum is personal and requires space for transformation. Keep your tools ready, your mind open, and stay curious. There is a vibrant path ahead—one where motherhood and art beautifully intersect.
