Also, there has been a lot of talk over on Threads about the state of historical romance right now. At least one traditional publisher isn’t renewing the contracts of some of its historical romance authors and I think everyone agrees that it’s a tough market for historical romance in traditional publishing overall right now. This development is upsetting for historical romance lovers and it’s not the news I want to hear either as both a reader and an author. BUT I wanted to also say that I don’t think we should despair—for one, historical romance is going strong and will continue strong in indie. I also don’t think it will disappear from traditional publishers, either, but there might be a growing difference between traditionally published versus indie historical romance. In short, I think historical romance will be just fine (and popularity, after all, is cyclical). And, of course, I am going to continue reading, writing, and boosting historical romance no matter its current popularity.
