Every milestone hits differently.
No matter if it's your first child or your fourth...
Every child gives you a brand new "first."
A different first smile.
A different first step.
A different little personality.
A different journey.
As a working mum, that's the part that hurts the most.
You celebrate every milestone...
But sometimes through photos, videos, or stories from someone else.
The guilt is real.
Yet we continue showing up because our family depends on us financially.
That's exactly why I started looking for another way to earn—something I could build during the small pockets of free time I had.
I'm still a full-time nurse.
I'm still a mum.
But now I'm also building something that could give my family more choices in the future.
Because I don't want to keep wondering what milestones I might miss.
How about you?
Motherhood is truly a unique journey, especially for working parents who constantly juggle their professional responsibilities and family life. One thing I’ve learned personally is that every milestone a child hits feels different—not just because every child has their own personality and timeline, but because our own feelings and circumstances change with each experience. It’s heartwarming yet challenging to celebrate these 'firsts,' such as that first smile or first step, especially when you sometimes witness them through a screen or hear about them secondhand due to work commitments. The guilt of not being fully present during such moments is real and something many working mums, including myself, encounter. However, it has motivated me to seek ways to create additional streams of income that provide more flexible work options. Building a side hustle during small pockets of free time has been empowering, allowing me to contribute financially while gaining greater autonomy over my schedule. This balance doesn’t come without its struggles, but it’s worth striving for to ensure we don’t miss out on irreplaceable milestones. Remember, "They won’t stay little," as the saying goes, and embracing this truth brings clarity to prioritize what matters most. For anyone in a similar boat, my advice is to recognize that feeling overwhelmed or guilty is normal, but finding creative solutions to align work and family life can help ease those feelings. Whether it’s nursing, teaching, freelancing, or any profession, carving out side income opportunities can grant more precious time with your children—and peace of mind knowing you’re building a future with more choices. In the end, showing up emotionally and physically for these milestones is what truly enriches our parenting journey.
