12/04 Wash N Go | 3 months post big chop

2024/12/7 Edited to

... Read moreHey beautiful people! It feels like just yesterday I was taking the plunge with my big chop, and now, here I am, 3 months into this incredible natural hair journey. If you're like me, you might be asking: 'Do wash and gos grow hair?' or 'What's the best chop regimen for new growth?' I'm here to share my experience and what's been working for me! Honestly, when you first do the big chop, it can feel a little daunting. You're starting fresh, and sometimes it's hard to imagine getting those 'juicy curls' you see everywhere. But trust me, it’s totally achievable! One of my biggest discoveries since my big chop has been perfecting my wash & go routine. Many people worry that wash and gos might not help with length retention because of daily manipulation, but when done right, they can actually be incredibly gentle and promote healthy growth by keeping your hands out of your hair for longer periods. It’s all about moisture, moisture, moisture! My current 'chop regimen' focuses on hydration and definition. After shampooing (I clarify once a month), I always deep condition for at least 30 minutes. This is non-negotiable for my 4B hair, as it truly preps my strands for styling. Then, in the shower, on soaking wet hair, I apply my leave-in conditioner, making sure to distribute it evenly. This step is crucial for moisture and detangling. Next comes my curl cream or gel – I often cocktail a cream with a light-hold gel to get maximum juicy curls without the crunch. I section my hair, apply the product using the 'raking' method, then gently scrunch upwards to encourage my curl pattern. Air drying or diffusing on low heat helps set the curls without causing frizz. This method has been a game-changer for getting definition just 3 months post-chop! For those wondering about other 'natural hairstyling' options after a big chop, don't be afraid to experiment! While wash and gos are my go-to, I’ve also tried mini-twists and finger coils when I want a more stretched look or a break from wash & gos. It’s a learning curve, and sometimes you might end up with what you think are 'pretty ugly hairstyle pics' in the beginning, but that's part of the fun and discovery. The key is patience and consistency. My hair has truly flourished since I committed to a consistent routine and learned to listen to what it needs. This journey is about celebrating your natural texture and watching it thrive!
