Four Month Sleep Regression 💤

Four months old and apparently sleep is now optional 😅

The four-month sleep regression has entered the chat and whew… it’s rough. Short naps, frequent wake-ups, and a very smiley baby who seems personally offended by the idea of rest.

She’s learning, growing, and changing. And I know this phase won’t last forever. But in the thick of it, it can feel long, exhausting, and a little unhinged.

Running on Diet Pepsi, cuddles, and reminding myself that one day I’ll miss these middle-of-the-night moments… just not tonight. 😅😴

... Read moreNavigating the four-month sleep regression can feel like a never-ending battle, but knowing you're not alone truly helps. During this phase, babies experience major developmental leaps that disrupt their sleep cycles, often leading to shorter naps and more frequent night awakenings. I've found that creating a consistent bedtime routine and responding gently but confidently to wake-ups can help ease your baby back into better sleep habits. One key aspect is understanding that this regression is temporary—typically lasting a few weeks as your baby adjusts to new growth and brain development. It’s also important to manage your own expectations and self-care: grabbing a quick nap when possible, staying hydrated, and leaning on your support system can make a big difference. Allowing yourself moments of humor and acceptance, as described in the original post, helps cope with the exhaustion. Using small comforts like feeding your own caffeine fix (Diet Pepsi or coffee) and cherishing cuddles can bring balance during rough nights. Remember, these challenging sleep interruptions are a sign your baby is thriving neurologically and learning new skills, and soon the nights will improve. If you’re looking for practical strategies, consider techniques like gentle rocking, swaddling (if still appropriate), white noise, and keeping the sleep environment calm and dark. Each baby is unique, so some trial and error is expected. Above all, connect with other parents going through the same phase for support. Sharing stories and tips can remind you that these middle-of-the-night moments, though tough now, are fleeting—and one day, you may even look back and miss them.
