Let’s talk about a controversial topic my coaches debate all the time…
“Do you still train when you’re sick?”
The real answer?
Yes… and no. 😳
It depends on how sick I actually am.
If I’m burning up with a high fever—workouts are off the table.
But for most colds or lower-level sickness, I stick to these 5 rules:
⸻
1️⃣ Train Your Mind
I scale down the effort but turn up the focus. No PRs expected—just mental toughness reps.
2️⃣ Hydrate Like It’s Your Job
Water, electrolytes, tea… if it flushes toxins, I’m in.
3️⃣ Eat to Heal
I cut the junk and load up on foods that actually support my immune system.
4️⃣ Prioritize Rest
Sleep becomes top priority. This week? I clocked 16 hours in one day and still went to bed early.
5️⃣ Know the Difference
Some of us play it up. Others push too hard. I check in with my doctor when it’s more than a mild cold—especially with pre-existing conditions.
⸻
Most of the time, following these 5 rules helps me bounce back faster—stronger mentally, and rested physically.
💭 What’s your sick-day strategy? Do you train or shut it down completely?
