What nobody tells you when you start…👇
The runners who last aren’t the most talented.
They’re the ones who never stop enjoying it.
Here are 3 ways to protect the fun 👇
1️⃣ Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle
Everyone improves at a different speed.
Run your race — literally.
2️⃣ Keep one run “just for you”
No stopwatch pressure.
No expectations.
Just movement and fresh air.
3️⃣ Remember why you started
Because it felt good.
Because you loved the challenge.
Because running made you feel strong.
Joy builds consistency.
Consistency builds confidence.
Confidence builds speed.
Protect the joy and you’ll stay in the game.

Starting a running journey can be both exciting and challenging, especially when you’re just beginning and the initial enthusiasm can sometimes fade. From my own experience, one of the biggest mistakes new runners make is focusing too much on speed or distance too soon. Instead, prioritizing enjoyment can make all the difference. One effective way to maintain your motivation is by setting aside at least one run each week that is entirely pressure-free. This “just for you” run means no timing yourself, no aiming for a personal record, just moving your body and enjoying the fresh air. It can be incredibly liberating and often reignites your passion for running when training feels like a grind. I also learned early on that comparing your progress to others’ can be discouraging. Everyone has their own starting point and pace of improvement. Focusing on your unique journey helps reduce stress and keeps running enjoyable instead of competitive. Remember why you started running in the first place—whether it was the sense of challenge, the feeling of strength, or simply the joy of movement. Holding on to these reasons fuels consistency, and consistency is what builds confidence over time. Confidence, in turn, naturally leads to improvements in speed and endurance. Lastly, small comforts like the right socks or shoes can enhance the running experience. Investing in quality gear that makes you feel good on your runs can boost your motivation. For instance, I found that having comfortable socks that prevent blisters and well-fitted shoes tailored to my running style made a huge difference in how much I looked forward to lacing up. Embracing these simple yet powerful approaches helps sustain the joy of running. It’s the runners who keep the fun alive that truly last and thrive in their running journey. So, protect that joy, and you’ll stay in the game longer and stronger.
