Tried something new last night and will never buy a jar of pickles again :)
Ingredients:
1 cup of water
1 cup of white vinegar (can you apple cider)
4-5 baby cucumbers (can use big ones if needed)
1.5 tablespoons of salt
Dill
peppercorn
Garlic (to your desire)
Also added season all salt for extra flavor.
Process:
- start by adding your vinegar, water and salt to a pan and bringing that to a boil.
-while that is boiling add your dill, peppercorn, garlic and chopped cucumbers (sliced or chipped) to your jar.
-once the mixture is boiled and all the salt is dissolved pour it over the cucumbers. Making sure they are all covered. Add more dill on top. Close the lid shake the mixture up well.
-let the cucumbers and brine get to room temp and then place them in the fridge for at least 24 hours, but they will be better on the 3rd day.
This was my very first batch and I can not wait to make more ☀️🤍

The basic brine solution combines vinegar and water with salt, which acts as a natural preservative and gives pickles their signature tangy taste. While this recipe uses white vinegar, apple cider vinegar is a great alternative that adds a slightly sweeter and fruitier flavor.
Selecting the right cucumbers plays a vital role in the texture and taste of pickles. Baby cucumbers are ideal due to their small size and crunchy texture, but larger cucumbers can be sliced or chopped to fit in jars. Fresh dill adds an aromatic freshness and is essential for classic dill pickles, while peppercorns provide subtle heat and complexity. Including garlic enhances the savory notes and pairs wonderfully with the dill.
The process involves boiling the brine mixture until the salt dissolves completely, then pouring it over the cucumbers and spices in a jar to ensure even coverage. Allowing the mixture to cool to room temperature before refrigerating helps preserve the crispness of the cucumbers. While pickles can be eaten after 24 hours, allowing them to marinate for at least 3 days intensifies their flavor and improves the overall texture.
For additional flavor variations, consider adding mustard seeds, red chili flakes, or some sliced onions to the jar. Using season-all salt, as mentioned in the original recipe, can also elevate the taste with a blend of herbs and spices. Homemade pickles can be stored in the refrigerator for several weeks, making them a delicious, convenient snack or a perfect accompaniment to sandwiches, burgers, and salads.
By mastering this simple at-home pickle recipe, you can customize flavors to your preference, reduce waste from store-bought jars, and enjoy the satisfaction of a homemade preserve. This DIY approach ensures freshness, quality ingredients, and delicious taste every time.
