Before signing up as a vendor at a market, craft fair, or artist alley, you should always try to find out as much information about it as you can. What kind of audience attends this market? What will my approximate expenses be? Will there be a lot of similar vendors or dropshippers?

Here's a list of some of the questions I ask myself before I choose to attend a show. Sometimes, even if you can make $3000, it's just not worth your mental health if you're sitting at a booth for 3x 8 hour days and your expenses are $2000.

1. Market Logistics

Booth Fees & Costs – What are the rental fees, deposit requirements, and additional costs (e.g., electricity, tables, insurance)?

Setup & Breakdown Rules – Are there designated setup times, and how strict are the breakdown policies?

Weather Considerations – If it’s an outdoor market, what are the contingency plans for bad weather?

2. Target Audience & Traffic

Customer Demographics – Who shops there (age, income, preferences)?

Foot Traffic – How busy is the market? Is it worth the investment?

Spending Habits – Do customers tend to buy high-end goods, handmade items, or bargain deals?

3. Vendor Rules & Policies

Product Restrictions – Are there rules about what you can and can’t sell?

Permits & Licenses – Do you need a business license, vendor insurance, or special certifications?

Vendor Mix & Competition – Are there similar vendors? How saturated is the market with your type of product?

4. Marketing & Promotion

Market Promotion Efforts – Does the market advertise or attract customers on social media?

Your Own Marketing – Can you promote your booth on-site? Are there rules about signage or online sales?

5. Financial & Operational Considerations

Payment Options – Do most vendors accept cash, cards, or mobile payments? Should you get a card reader?

Profit Margins & Pricing – Can you price competitively while maintaining profits?

Opportunities - Are there opportunities for networking to sell wholesale, or other marketing opportunities?
