Why do girls have better handwriting?
I was looking over some old notes today and had to ask myself: Why is it that, generally speaking, most people I know with truly beautiful, neat, and legible handwriting are women, while the guys' handwriting often looks like a doctor's prescription written during turbulence?
I'm curious about the real reason behind this common observation. I don't think it's biology, because plenty of men have great handwriting. My theory is that it comes down to two things:
Early Expectations: Are girls socially encouraged in school to prioritize neatness and presentation (journals, coloring, etc.) more than boys, who might be pushed toward speed?
Fine Motor Skills Practice: Do girls engage more frequently in activities that require delicate fine motor skills (like drawing, intricate crafts, or taking detailed notes) which translates to better pen control?
I feel like this generalization is mostly true, and it makes me a little confused that it's such a noticeable pattern! What do you think the core difference is?
