How I’m navigating my grief in my everyday life

Since my mom and grandma were murdered in July, Grief has become a constant presence in my life—it doesn’t disappear but instead becomes a part of my daily life. Some days it feels overwhelming, while other days it might quietly linger in the background. Finding ways to manage grief in your routine can help you navigate this journey with a little more ease. While the pain doesn’t go away, small tools and habits can make carrying it feel more manageable. Here are some tips that have helped me:

1. Create a Daily Routine

Grief can leave you feeling lost, so having a routine—even a loose one—can provide structure and stability. Start with small, manageable habits:

• Wake up and make your bed, wash your face, put on lotion. Anything to make you feel a little more human.

• Set aside 5–10 minutes for quiet reflection or journaling.

• End the day with a calming ritual, like reading, sipping tea or catching up on your favorite show.

These small anchors can make a big difference in how you approach the day.

2. Allow Space for Your Emotions

There’s no right or wrong way to grieve. Some days you’ll feel okay, and other days, the sadness will feel unbearable. Give yourself permission to feel it all without judgment. Journaling can be a helpful outlet—write letters to your loved ones, document memories, or simply pour out your thoughts.

3. Lean on Faith

If you’re a person of faith, turning to God can bring comfort and guidance. Prayer, reading the Bible, or listening to uplifting worship music can help remind you of God’s presence and promises. One verse that has brought me peace is Matthew 5:4: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

4. Find Your Support System

Grief can feel isolating, but you don’t have to face it alone. Reach out to friends, family, or a support group where you feel safe sharing your heart. If you’re not ready to talk, consider a therapist who can help you process your emotions in a constructive way.

5. Focus on Small Joys

In the midst of pain, it’s important to find glimpses of joy—no matter how small. It could be a warm cup of coffee, a walk in nature, or a favorite song that lifts your spirit. These moments don’t erase the grief but remind you that beauty still exists.

6. Be Patient with Yourself

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. Some days will be harder than others, and that’s okay. Celebrate small victories, like getting out of bed or smiling at a memory, and give yourself grace on the tough days.

Grief is a journey, and there’s no “right” way to navigate it. But with time, support, and intentional practices, you can find ways to carry your loss while still embracing the life in front of you.

What are some tools or habits that have helped you manage grief? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Remember, you’re not alone in this.

... Read moreGrieving is a deeply personal journey that affects everyone differently. To navigate this challenging experience, it's essential to understand that grief has no timeline. By accepting your feelings and expressing them through journaling, you create a space for healing. Engaging in calming activities, such as meditation or gentle yoga, can ground you and provide solace during turbulent times. Surround yourself with supportive friends and family who can lend an ear or share fond memories of your loved ones, which can facilitate the healing process. Additionally, consider joining a local support group where you can connect with others who share similar experiences. This collective understanding can be immensely comforting. Moreover, don't underestimate the power of routine. Establishing simple tasks in your daily life, such as cooking a comforting meal or tending to your plants, can foster a sense of normalcy. Remember to celebrate the small victories, whether it's a moment of joy or managing to get through the day. Incorporating moments of gratitude into your routine can help shift your perspective and highlight the warmth and beauty around you, even amidst pain. Embrace the journey ahead and know that while the shadows of grief may linger, brighter moments await. You're not alone in this battle against grief; support is always available if you reach out.

Frozen in Time While Navigating Grief 🖤
My partner and soulmate died in March 2025. But my grief started the day of his stroke—February 10. He was rushed into emergency brain surgery and put into a coma. The uncertainty was terrifying. Not knowing if he’d wake up. Or if he’d have memory, mobility, or any part of himself still intact.
