I will die on this hill, and argue everyone until im blue in the face about this. I don't care if you use it "all the time and nothing bad has happened". You are the exception, NOT the rule. 👎

Why you shouldn't use this stupid function...
1. Irreparable Damage: The high heat can destroy functions inside your oven. 💔
2. Health Hazards: The process burns off food debris, releasing pungent, thick smoke and toxic fumes. ☣️
3. Fire Danger: The intense heat can ignite food causing a fire! 🔥
4. Safety Risks: The exterior surfaces of the oven become hot enough to cause burns, posing a risk to household pets and kids 🐱
5. Premature Aging: Using the feature regularly can significantly reduce the lifespan of the appliance. 🍳

And finally, it BAKES ON YOUR GREASE & makes it damn near impossible to clean.
I have cleaned THOUSANDS of ovens at this point. And have never come across a self-cleaned oven this bad.
The glass portion of an oven normally takes 30 seconds - 2 minutes to clean, and this one was so baked on, my poor employee called me for help. It took me FAR too long to get this properly cleaned.

Before you come at me with "this product would've done the trick"... im telling you no. DO NOT use the self-cleaning function.

From my personal experience cleaning countless ovens over the years, I can attest that relying on the self-cleaning cycle frequently is more harmful than helpful. While manufacturers often promote this feature as a convenient way to manage oven grime, the intense heat it produces actually causes more problems. One major issue is the damage to internal oven components. The extremely high temperatures can warp or degrade sensors and other electronics, leading to costly repairs or complete appliance failure. I’ve encountered many ovens that stopped functioning properly due to repeated use of self-cleaning, even though owners thought they were helping their appliance. Beyond mechanical damage, the health risks are concerning. The process incinerates leftover food particles, releasing noxious fumes and thick smoke that can be irritating or unsafe, especially for sensitive individuals or those with respiratory issues. Proper ventilation is often inadequate to fully dissipate these toxic emissions. There’s also a real fire hazard. I have personally seen ovens catch small fires during the cleaning cycle because residual food ignited under the extreme heat. This risk is especially dangerous in busy household environments where pets or children might be nearby, and hot exterior surfaces can cause burns. Perhaps most frustratingly, the self-cleaning feature can actually bake grease and stains onto oven surfaces, making stubborn residues harder to clean afterward. I remember one cleaning job where the oven’s glass door had thick baked-on residue that took me much longer than usual to remove, far beyond the 30 seconds to 2 minutes typical for regular cleaning. Instead of relying on this hazardous function, I recommend manual cleaning methods with safer, non-toxic oven cleaners or natural alternatives like baking soda and vinegar. These methods take more effort but avoid the risk of damage and health concerns. In short, while the self-cleaning feature might seem like a time-saver, my hands-on experience proves it’s better to avoid it for the sake of your oven’s longevity and your household’s safety. Making good choices about how we care for our kitchen appliances ultimately leads to better, safer results.
