I wanted to say my passion for baking started two years ago, but the truth is, it actually goes way back!
Picture this: I was a wide-eyed kid, ready to conquer the kitchen with my baking skills, and I whipped up some cookies for my dad. I was so proud of them. They were supposed to be cookies—supposed to be. But, as fate (and maybe a little lack of experience) would have it, I completely botched the recipe. My dad, being the sweet guy he was, bravely munched on what he lovingly renamed “rocks.” Yeah, rocks. He didn’t just give up on them—no, he did his absolute best to eat those “cookies.” They were edible…in theory.
Now, baking runs in the family—my mom was a baker, my aunt had a bakery here in Chicago, so of course, it’s genetic, right?
I did learn the basics in high school, but at the time, I was too busy being a rebellious young lady. I was all about adventure, fun, and falling in love (because who’s got time for kneading dough when there are life experiences to chase?).
But here I am, full circle. Whatever I try, whatever new passion I pursue, I always find myself back in the kitchen, surrounded by flour, butter, and sugar. It’s like the universe is telling me, “Hey, you tried, now get back to baking.”
So, who knows? Maybe I’ll take this all the way to Paris and snag a certificate from Le Cordon Bleu. Imagine that! Croissants with a side of je ne sais quoi.
For now, I’m baking my favorite things, testing new flavors, and dreaming up a menu or maybe even a recipe book. But until then, let me introduce you to my Mugwort Injeolmi Red Bean Madeleines. Oh yes, they’re fancy. Mugwort—if you haven’t heard of it—is kinda like matcha’s quirky cousin. It’s got this earthy, herbal vibe, like tea but without the whole punch in the face thing matcha does. Injeolmi is roasted soybean powder, which tastes like peanuts but, you know, chill. And red bean? It’s the sweet friend that ties everything together.
These little madeleines? Perfect with coffee or tea. Seriously, they just belong together.
