Rockler Sharpening Supplies
I am jumping into the world of sharpening with Rockler Woodworking and Rikon Tools. A Rikon slow speed grinder should arrive next week, but a box from Rockler showed up so I wanted to show you what was inside. There is a grinding and honing jig, some diamond and dual sided wet stones, some silicone sharpening trays, and some flattening stones. So many fun things in one box.

As someone who recently started delving into the world of sharpening woodworking tools, I found that having the right supplies makes all the difference in achieving precision and longevity for blades. The Rockler sharpening kit is especially impressive because it combines various essential tools for a complete sharpening experience. One of the standout items for me was the double-sided waterstone (400/1000 grit) which works wonderfully for both initial sharpening and finer honing. The diamond sharpening stone included is also incredibly durable and cuts steel efficiently, significantly reducing the time it takes to restore a blade's edge. The silicone sharpening trays are a clever addition—they help keep the stones wet and contained, preventing mess and making the process much easier to manage. I also appreciated the flattening stones, as it's crucial to keep sharpening stones flat to ensure even sharpening results. I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Rikon slow speed grinder, which I expect will complement these supplies perfectly by allowing me to shape and sharpen tools more effectively. Using a slow speed grinder reduces heat build-up, preserving the temper of steel blades. From my experience, investing time and a bit of patience in learning how to use these tools properly pays off immensely, resulting in tools that perform like new and last longer. This Rockler setup is ideal for both beginners and seasoned woodworkers who want reliable, high-quality sharpening gear in one box.
