✨Prep For A Buddy Read With Me✨
For as long as I could remember, I have always wanted to be in a bookclub. And I mean like meeting up once a week with a big group of people who have each individually read the same section of a book and came to a common area to discuss it… like i’m talking the real deal! But unfortunately, that has never happened. Maybe it is because I was too shy to put myself out there when I had the opportunity, or maybe it is because I lost all my friends when I moved to a different city. Whatever the reason is, it just never happened… until now!!! Thanks to the lemon8 community I have bonded with so many book enthusiasts within my comments and the reading creator program which I am so honored to be in. It has opened so many opportunities for me, and one of them being, a buddy read with one of my new bookish besties!! For our first read, we decided on The Dead Romantics By Ashley Poston, which has been on both of our tbr list for FOREVER! And to say I am excited is an understatement! That being said, I wanted to try to do something different this time around when reading a book, because this year I have been in a reading slump more than I have read books, which is so embarrassing to say lol. Anyways, the way I plan on doing that is tabbing! Which is what you see me prepping for right now! Now although I don’t plan on highlighting or writing in my book, I do plan on adding sticky notes to highlight parts of the book that have made me feel any type of emotion that I want to remember! I am not too sure how this will go or if I will enjoy it, but I am willing to give it a shot as a means to romanticize reading. Having said that, we start this read on Tuesday so I will keep you guys posted via lemon8 notes on how I like tabbing and if it keeps me interesting in the book! That said, do any of you guys tab your books? And if so, where do you get your supplies?!
*Ps how cute is my bookmark?! It matches this book’s aesthetic so perfectly and it means so much to me because I made it myself! Yes you heard me right, you can make your own bookmarks… and for CHEAP at that!! (I got my supplies from Hobby Lobby and Amazon for those who are wondering!) 🫶🏼

I totally get the excitement of starting a buddy read! After years of wishing for a traditional book club, finding a bookish bestie for a buddy read has been a game-changer for me. If you're wondering how to really make the most of one, or just how to get into the reading zone, I've picked up a few tips that might help you too! First off, finding your perfect buddy is key. Think about someone whose reading pace is similar to yours and who enjoys discussing books in a way that resonates with you. Do you like deep dives, or just casual chats? It's all about matching vibes! For our first read, we picked 'The Dead Romantics' by Ashley Poston, which was perfect because we both had it on our TBR lists forever. Choosing a book you're both genuinely excited about makes all the difference. Maybe you've seen it on the New York Times Bestseller list, or perhaps it's a genre you both love, like a good romance with a unique twist, much like this ROMANTic tale. Once you've got your buddy and your book, discussing the 'how-to' of the read is crucial. Will you set a reading schedule, like a few chapters a day or a certain number of pages per week? This helps keep you both on track without feeling rushed. My buddy and I decided we'd check in regularly, not just at the end. We use notes to share our immediate reactions and thoughts as we go, which makes the final discussion so much richer. It's like having a mini book club experience, but totally personalized! And speaking of getting ready to read, beyond tabbing (which I'm loving for this book!), there are other ways to really immerse yourself. I've found creating a cozy reading nook with a warm blanket and a nice drink can totally transform my experience. Sometimes, just setting aside dedicated, distraction-free time makes a huge difference to avoid those dreaded reading slumps. For a book as captivating as 'The Dead Romantics,' you want to give it your full attention! I also love to look up author interviews or background info on the book after I've finished reading. For instance, knowing a bit about Ashley Poston's inspiration behind this unique story can add another layer to the discussion. And if you're into historical context or similar themes, maybe check out other popular authors like Christina Lauren if you enjoy romance with a touch of magic. Don't forget the fun little extras, like crafting your own bookmark, just like I did. It adds a personal touch and makes a reading session feel even more special. Whether you're trying to get back into reading or just want to deepen your connection with books and fellow readers, buddy reads are an amazing way to go. They've genuinely helped me romanticize reading again and brought so much joy to my bookish life. I hope these tips help you on your next literary adventure!

I love the tabs!!! That’s a really clever idea!!!
