hair care tips that SAVED my hair ✨

i’m complimented all the time on how healthy and great my hair looks (after years of not knowing how to CARE for it)

so i did my research and started using these tips and they all SAVED my hair 🥹

AVOIDING HEAT TOOLS ✨

— my hair was very susceptible to heat damage (i want to assume because it’s so thin) so now, i rarely ever use heat styling tools and when i do, i always use heat protectant!

ALLOWING YOUR HAIR TO GREASE UP ✨

— funny enough, allowing your hair to grease up can have benefits! your hair needs those natural oils for nourishment. excessive oil can drown your scalp but just a little grease doesn’t hurt!

AIR DRYING >>> BLOW DRYING ✨

— i noticed a crazy difference in my hair once i started letting it air dry more often! this kinda falls into not using heat styling tools but i noticed it also helped with my frizz!

SHAMPOOING TWICE ✨

— if you are noticing product buildup at your scalp, you should try shampooing twice! shampooing twice can also make sure your hair is actually absorbing the product!

SWITCHING TO POWDER DRY SHAMPOO ✨

— powder dry shampoos are typically made with less ingredients and the less ingredients, the better!

HAIR MASKS ✨

— i love me a good hair mask so when my hair is needing some extra TLC, i slap a hair mask on. i’ve started using them regularly now and i’ve noticed a huge difference thus far!

... Read moreOkay, so we've talked about the basics that truly saved my hair, but let's get real about one of the most frustrating hair battles: those stubborn, deep split ends and overall hair damage. I know the feeling of looking at your hair and thinking, 'This is the worst split ends ever!' I've been there, truly. It wasn't just about heat anymore; it was about truly understanding what my hair needed to heal and thrive. Beyond avoiding heat, which is a HUGE one, I started focusing on a more targeted approach specifically for repairing and preventing those nasty split ends. First, let's talk about products. While my original article mentioned hair masks, I found that incorporating specific bond-repairing treatments into my routine made a monumental difference. Think of them as a deep conditioning hair mask on steroids, designed to literally fuse those broken hair bonds. I'd typically use one once a week, making sure to really saturate the mid-lengths to ends, letting it sit for at least 20 minutes with a warm towel wrap to really open up the cuticle and let the goodness seep in. Another game-changer for me was how I handled my hair when it was wet. We all know wet hair is fragile, but I used to just towel-dry it aggressively. Now, after shampooing twice (which, by the way, ensures your scalp is super clean and ready to absorb nutrients!), I gently squeeze out excess water with a microfiber towel. Then, before I even think about air drying, I apply a leave-in conditioner or a lightweight hair oil, focusing heavily on the ends. This forms a protective barrier, reducing friction and further splitting as my hair dries. And for those days I really want a style without heat? Heatless curlers became my best friend! They give me beautiful waves without any damage, proving you don't need hot tools to look great. I also realized that having a healthy scalp is paramount to preventing damage down the line. If your scalp isn't happy, your hair won't be either. So, while I shampoo twice to tackle product buildup, I also occasionally use a gentle scalp scrub to ensure my scalp is balanced and free of flakes. This creates an optimal environment for healthy hair growth, meaning stronger strands from the root, which are less prone to splitting. Finally, and this might sound counterintuitive when you're trying to grow your hair, but regular trims are non-negotiable for battling deep split ends. You can use all the products in the world, but once an end is split, it's split. Getting a tiny trim every 8-12 weeks, even if it's just a quarter-inch, makes a huge difference in keeping those ends fresh and stopping the split from traveling further up the hair shaft. It’s part of the comprehensive hair routine that truly transformed my hair from being constantly brittle and broken to healthy, shiny, and strong. It takes consistency, but trust me, the results are worth every effort!
