Turning 31

I totally get that feeling when your kids are hyped for their birthdays, and you're just like, 'Another year older?' It’s a strange mix of emotions, isn't it? One minute you’re celebrating with balloons and cake, the next you’re wondering where the time went and if you’re 'behind' on something. Trust me, you're not alone in feeling a little less enthusiastic about your own milestones when you're turning 31. For a while, my birthdays felt less like a celebration and more like a gentle reminder of time marching on. But I’ve been working on shifting that perspective, deciding that my thirties, starting with turning 31, are going to be about intentionally living a 'Simple Life' and truly learning to 'Enjoy every moment of my life.' It’s a conscious choice to reframe 'getting older' into 'getting better' or 'getting more experienced.' One of the biggest shifts for me has been realizing the power of self-awareness that comes with this age. In my twenties, I often felt pressured to keep up, to achieve certain milestones, or to fit into molds. Now, at 31, I feel a newfound confidence in who I am. I'm more comfortable saying no to things that don't serve me and yes to experiences that genuinely bring me joy. It’s about building a life that feels authentic to me, not just what society expects. To embrace this new chapter, I've started focusing heavily on self-care, not as a luxury, but as a necessity. This means prioritizing my mental and physical well-being. It could be as simple as dedicating time each morning for quiet reflection, enjoying a nourishing meal, or going for a walk to clear my head. It's about creating pockets of calm in the everyday chaos, finding those 'Simple Life' moments that recharge me. I've also learned the importance of decluttering – not just my physical space, but also my mental and emotional clutter. Letting go of old expectations and unnecessary worries has been incredibly liberating. Another aspect I'm excited about is re-evaluating my goals. My thirties feel like a decade of purposeful growth. Instead of chasing every opportunity, I'm now more focused on quality over quantity. What genuinely excites me? What skills do I want to master? What kind of relationships do I want to nurture? It's a time for deeper connections and more meaningful pursuits. I'm finding joy in the journey, rather than just fixating on the destination. Connecting with other women who are navigating their thirties has also been incredibly helpful. Sharing our experiences, our challenges, and our triumphs makes the journey feel less solitary and more empowering. It’s a reminder that we’re all growing and evolving, and there’s beauty in every stage of life.
