HOW TO ADD✨FIBER✨INTO YOUR DIET 🫶

If you want to add more fiber into your diet, but you’re unsure of how to do that, here are my tips ⬇️💘

Why is it important to include fiber in your diet?

• Better gut health

• Consistent bowel movement

• Keeps you feeling full longer

• Helps achieve a healthy weight

All you need to do is make small changes to your diet, by adding a few of these ingredients!

🥣 Oats. Eating oatmeal is a great breakfast. You can add flaxseed powder, chia seeds and berries into your oatmeal as well for extra fiber. You can also add oats into a protein shake and healthy desserts.

🥑 Avocado. You can’t go wrong with an avocado toast. It’s also a great ingredient in shakes, healthy desserts, salads and grain bowls.

🌾 Whole Grains. Switching to whole grain bread is a better option. Eating brown rice, corn, and quinoa are also amazing options to get in extra fiber into your diet.

🫘 Beans/Legumes. Making bean salads or adding beans into soups. I also love making bean dips as a healthy snack!

🍌🥦 Fruits/Veggies. Green leafy veggies like kale, spinach, lettuce and collard greens. Fruits like apples, berries, and bananas. Broccoli, brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes are great too!

*Make sure you are also drinking lots of water. If you aren’t used to including these ingredients into your diet, I would start off slowly incorporating them in.

SAVE for your next grocery run 🛒

... Read moreAfter years of feeling sluggish and dealing with inconsistent digestion, I started really focusing on adding more fiber into my diet, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer! Beyond just keeping things regular, I've noticed a huge boost in my energy levels and overall well-being. It's not about drastic changes, but smart, simple swaps. One of the biggest eye-openers for me was understanding how different types of fiber work. We often hear 'fiber is good for you,' but knowing why makes it easier to choose the right foods. Soluble fiber, found in things like oats, beans, and flax seeds, dissolves in water to form a gel-like substance. This helps lower cholesterol and glucose levels, and keeps you feeling full longer. Insoluble fiber, prominent in whole wheat bread, many fruits & veggies (especially the skins!), and brown rice, adds bulk to your stool, helping food pass more quickly through your stomach and intestines. Getting both types is key for optimal digestive health! My morning routine got a major upgrade with oats, chia seeds, and flax seeds. Instead of just plain oatmeal, I like to supercharge it with a tablespoon of chia seeds and a sprinkle of ground flax seeds. They're not just fiber powerhouses; they also add healthy fats! You can also blend them into smoothies with some bananas or other berries for an easy on-the-go breakfast. For those who enjoy baking, these seeds can be easily incorporated into muffins or energy bites too. When it comes to savory meals, beans and lentils are absolute heroes. I often make a big batch of a lentil soup or a hearty bean salad at the beginning of the week. They’re so versatile! You can add them to almost any dish, from tacos to stews, or even make delicious dips. One of my favorite quick lunches is a simple bowl with quinoa as the base, topped with black beans, some avocado, and lots of fresh green leafy veggies. Speaking of quinoa, if you're wondering about quinoa vs chia seeds, both are fantastic! Quinoa is a complete protein and a great grain alternative, like brown rice, offering a different texture and flavor profile. Chia seeds are tiny but mighty, packed with omega-3s and fiber. I try to include both in my diet. And let's not forget about our crunchy friends, the high fiber vegetables! I make it a point to load up my plates with broccoli, Brussels sprouts, corn, and peas. Roasting them brings out their natural sweetness, making them incredibly delicious. Even just adding an extra handful of spinach to your pasta sauce or a side of steamed kale can make a big difference. A crucial tip I learned is to introduce fiber gradually. If you suddenly double your intake, your body might react with bloating or discomfort. Start with small additions, like switching to whole wheat bread for your sandwiches or adding a few spoonfuls of beans to your salad. And this is super important: drink plenty of water! Fiber needs water to work its magic and move through your digestive system smoothly. Without enough water, it can actually cause constipation. So, keep that water bottle handy! Making these small, consistent changes has truly transformed how I feel day-to-day. It’s amazing how much impact dietary fiber has on everything from digestion and gut health to sustained energy. Give these tips a try and see how much better you feel!
