🌶️Spicy Rating: 🔥🔥🔥

⭐️Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My review: This is definitely my least favorite of the series. I felt like the story was far-fetched but I guessed for a ✨forced marriage/ fake relationship✨story it’s not too bad. The spicy scenes were okay, it was definitely a “taboo” kind of romance. The MMC is a billionaire bad boy but also a serial killer but also a COO of a jewelry company? Just too many points to follow, I felt. The ending was eh, the plot twist was eh. I feel like this could have been done a lot better but even with how disappointed I was with how this turned out, I would still read just about anything this Author puts out.

Loosely based on Aladdin

... Read moreSo, you’ve read a review of Emily McIntire's 'Twisted' and you’re probably asking, 'Is it really that twisted?' Or maybe the 'taboo' element caught your eye, and you're wondering how the classic 'genie' story of Aladdin gets a dark, modern makeover in this 'Never After Novel'. Let's dive deeper into what makes this book such a talked-about, and sometimes polarizing, dark romance. From the moment you pick up 'Twisted' – perhaps noting the striking shattered diamond design on the cover, hinting at a broken fairy tale – you know you're in for something intense. The original review mentioned the book feeling 'far-fetched' with 'too many points to follow,' and that's often where the 'too twisted' aspect comes into play for many readers. McIntire doesn't shy away from pushing boundaries. The plot involves a billionaire who's also a serial killer and a COO, which definitely adds layers of moral ambiguity and complexity that can be a lot to unpack. The 'forced marriage/fake relationship' trope is taken to extreme levels, blurring lines between consent, obsession, and a twisted kind of love. Then there are the 'taboo' themes that permeate the narrative. Dark romance, by its nature, often explores morally gray areas, but 'Twisted' leans heavily into elements like explicit sexual scenes, mild torture, kidnapping, and even gun violence. These aren't glossed over; they contribute to the dark atmosphere and intense dynamic between the characters. For readers new to the genre, or even seasoned dark romance enthusiasts, these elements can feel genuinely shocking or, as the review suggests, 'too much.' It's a deliberate choice by the author to explore the darker side of human nature and relationships. And what about the 'genie' connection? 'Twisted' is loosely based on Aladdin, but forget the magic carpet rides and friendly blue genies. Here, the 'genie' archetype is warped into something far more dangerous and controlling. The male main character might grant wishes, but they come at a steep, often terrifying, price. The magic is replaced by manipulation, power, and a sinister kind of enchantment. It’s fascinating how McIntire reinterprets classic fairy tale elements, stripping away their innocence to reveal a raw, gritty core. This isn't a story of wishes coming true happily ever after, but rather a tale of desires fulfilled with dark consequences, shattering the illusion of a perfect diamond. Ultimately, 'Twisted' by Emily McIntire is a book for those who crave a story that challenges their comfort zones. If you're drawn to dark romance that features complex, morally ambiguous characters, high-stakes plots, and doesn't shy away from explicit and controversial themes, then you might find yourself immersed. However, if you're sensitive to extensive trigger warnings or prefer a more traditional romance, this 'Never After Novel' might indeed be 'too twisted' for your taste. Always check those trigger warnings before you dive in!
