📸 moments from @milesmusclesmagic coaching call
Don’t get it twisted, when it comes to your fitness journey or body recomp, the choice is not COMFORT or DISCOMFORT, it’s actually two types of discomfort, they’re just different.
1️⃣ Predictable pain is continuing to do what you already know. For some, it’s starting over, low energy, not feeling like yourself, repeating the same patterns again and again. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s familiar, and that’s why it’s easy (easier) to stay there.
2️⃣ Growth discomfort is different. It’s uncertain, inconvenient, and asks more of you. It’s showing up when you don’t feel like it, doing things you haven’t done before, and sticking to your plan when it would be easier not to.
Both are hard, but only one actually moves you forward.
So the real question isn’t “why does this feel hard?”, it’s: which hard am I choosing?

From my own fitness journey, I've realized that understanding the difference between predictable pain and growth discomfort is crucial to making real progress. Predictable pain feels like being stuck in a rut—getting familiar with setbacks like low energy, lack of motivation, or repeating the same unsuccessful routines. It’s uncomfortable, yes, but it’s the safe, known discomfort that holds many back. On the other hand, growth discomfort is all about pushing boundaries. It invites uncertainty and requires commitment, like showing up even when motivation dips or trying new workouts and nutrition plans that challenge your usual habits. This kind of discomfort, while inconvenient, truly leads to transformation. For example, committing to a plant-based diet or incorporating strength training can initially feel tough but ultimately helps reshape your body and mindset. I found that embracing growth discomfort means saying no to old patterns and habits that no longer serve your goals. It’s about persistence, even when it's inconvenient—like waking up early for a training session or resisting comfort foods that derail fat loss. Over time, what once felt hard becomes a new normal, and that shift is empowering. In coaching calls like those from @milesmusclesmagic, this mindset is reinforced: discomfort is inevitable, but the kind you choose defines your progress. There’s no comfort zone in growth—it’s about consistently choosing the challenge that moves you toward your goals. Reflecting on this helped me stay accountable during tough days and recognize that my struggle was a sign of growth, not failure. If you’re on a body recomp or fat loss journey, remember that every moment presents a choice between the easy discomfort of staying the same and the transformative discomfort of pushing forward. Choosing growth discomfort might be tough, but it’s the only one that actually changes your outcome and builds strength—not just physically, but mentally too.
