Rating my study spots during final week✨

2025/12/23 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so for finals week, I literally felt like I was living a double life – one at my desk, one hopping between coffee shops! It's such a classic student dilemma: Home vs. Cafe. After rating everywhere I studied this past 'mal week' (definitely felt like a mal-week!), I've got some thoughts to share about finding your perfect study sanctuary. Let's talk about the Home Base first. My desk is usually my go-to for deep focus. The biggest pro? Zero commute, total control over my environment (hello, comfy PJs and endless snacks!). I can blast my study playlist, spread out all my textbooks, and not worry about anyone judging my messy notes. For tasks that need absolute quiet, like writing essays or complex problem-solving, home is a winner. But, and this is a big but, it's also a HUGE distraction zone if you're not disciplined. My bed is *right there*, the fridge is calling my name, and suddenly I'm cleaning my entire apartment instead of studying! So, if you're team home, my top tip is to create a dedicated study corner, keep it tidy, and set strict 'study-only' hours. Now, for the Coffee Shop Grind. Oh, the allure of a good cafe! There’s something about the ambient buzz and the smell of fresh coffee that just gets me productive. A change of scenery can seriously jumpstart a tired brain, especially during those long finals stretches. I find cafes perfect for reading, reviewing notes, or doing lighter tasks. Plus, the social aspect, even if it's just being around other people, can be motivating. It feels like you're part of a collective struggle! But which coffee shops are actually good for working at coffee shop style? Not all are created equal! I've been on a mission to find the best study spots in NYC (because, let's be real, this city has endless options!). My personal criteria for a good study cafe include: Plenty of outlets: A non-negotiable for laptop warriors. Reliable Wi-Fi: Crucial for research and online lectures. Comfortable seating: No one wants to cram for hours on a tiny stool. Manageable noise level: A gentle hum is okay, but loud music or constant chatter is a no-go for me. Good coffee/snacks: Fuel is essential! While I can't list every single gem I've found, some general tips for finding the best place to study in NYC (or any big city!) are to look for cafes slightly off the main thoroughfares, or those that explicitly market themselves as 'laptop-friendly' or 'workspace cafes.' University areas often have hidden gems too. Think about places with communal tables, which often signal a more laptop-friendly vibe. Some of my favorite types are those with big windows for natural light – it just helps keep my spirits up. So, which team am I on? Honestly, it depends on the task and my mood! For intense, focused work, home often wins. But for a productivity boost, a change of pace, and a little bit of external motivation, a good cafe is unbeatable. The key is to know yourself and what environment serves you best. Sometimes, it's about embracing the rotation, just like I did. And remember, as my OCR said, 'GOOD THINGS are coming' – especially after finals!
