Late-night study sessions without the doomscrolling 🕯️📖

Whenever I have some free time at night, I try to swap my phone for 30 minutes of reading. I’m currently reading What Every Teacher Needs to Know About Psychology. This book is phenomenal for my lesson plans, but as a student, it is an absolute goldmine for study hacks!

I share exactly my system to remember everything I read in the video. How do you make sure you actually remember what you read? Let me know down below 👇🤍

... Read moreLate-night study sessions can be incredibly productive when you eliminate distractions like doomscrolling on your phone. From my personal experience, dedicating just 30 minutes each night to focused reading has not only deepened my understanding of psychology but also improved how I plan lessons and retain information as a student. One strategy I find especially helpful, which aligns with what I’m reading in 'What Every Teacher Needs to Know About Psychology,' is repeated testing and spaced retrieval. This means revisiting topics multiple times over several days instead of cramming, which mitigates the illusion of learning and significantly boosts memory. For instance, after reading a chapter, I test myself on key concepts three to eight times over the next week, which has proven more effective than passive rereading. The book highlights how human memory is prone to forgetting and that rubrics or tests viewed just once aren’t enough. Applying this insight, I use flashcards and quick quizzes to reinforce new vocabulary and concepts. Additionally, setting a cozy and minimalistic desk setup helps maintain focus during these quiet hours. Avoiding phone use during study time is crucial—keeping it in another room or on do not disturb mode prevents the temptation to doomscroll and lose precious study time. Incorporating these habits has helped me romanticize the act of studying rather than seeing it as a chore, making late-night sessions something I look forward to. If you struggle to remember what you read, try adopting a system that includes segmentation of material, active recall testing, and scheduled reviews as suggested by psychological research. This method replaces the usual anxiety around exams with confident knowledge retention. It’s also rewarding to share your study routines and tips with others, as teaching is another way to reinforce learning. How do you make sure you remember what you read? Feel free to share your favorite study hacks—community insights can make all the difference!
