Ringworm outbreaks at gym from unclean equipment!

Ringworm isn’t the only thing you can pick up at gyms, or any public place. You can get staph infections, athletes foot, warts, fungal and viral infections, and even more.

Do not rely on other people for your hygiene!!

Reminder: every disintectant wipe has a contact time. This means the surface needs to stay wet for that long for the surface to be properly disinfected!

... Read moreHaving experienced a ringworm outbreak from gym equipment firsthand, I can’t stress enough the importance of personal hygiene and proper equipment cleaning. It’s easy to overlook how quickly fungi and bacteria can spread in gyms, especially on shared gear and mats. Always carry your own disinfectant wipes and ensure you follow the contact time instructions to allow the disinfectant to work fully — surfaces need to stay wet for a specific period to be truly sanitized. Aside from ringworm, gyms can also be breeding grounds for staph infections, athlete’s foot, warts, and other fungal or viral infections. Don’t assume others have cleaned the equipment thoroughly before you use it. Bringing your own towel, wiping down machines before and after use, and wearing shower shoes in locker rooms can significantly reduce your risk. Understanding that these infections are contagious and can spread quickly motivates me to be extra cautious. Remember, your health is in your hands, and relying on others for hygiene is risky. Making these small habits part of your gym routine can keep your skin healthy and infection-free.
