Vlogmas day 9
Sorry for the late upload. You don’t know an olympic sport till its time to clip your baby’s finger + toenails. Didn’t make much process with packing but we’ll get there.
You know, when I mentioned on Vlogmas Day 9 that clipping my baby's finger and toenails felt like an Olympic sport, I wasn't exaggerating! It’s one of those unexpected parenting challenges that no one truly prepares you for. I vividly remember the first time I tried; my little one was squirming like a tiny octopus. It felt utterly impossible to get it done! Over time, I’ve picked up a few tricks that might help other parents navigating this tricky task. For starters, timing is absolutely everything. I’ve found it’s easiest to do it right after a warm bath when their nails are softer, or even better, when they're deeply asleep. Speaking of 'slow progress' (which one of my image captions perfectly captured!), trying to get those tiny clippers near their fingers when they're wide awake and curious can feel like it takes an eternity. I’ve since learned to use a baby-specific nail file for a much gentler approach, especially for those super wiggly moments. And honestly, sometimes you just have to accept that it won't be perfect, and that’s perfectly okay. It’s truly a test of patience, and I’ve often ended up 'not talking' much during these sessions, mainly because I'm concentrating so hard! Another tip I swear by is using an electric nail file for babies. It's gentler, considerably less scary than traditional clippers, and significantly reduces the chance of accidental nicks, which can be terrifying for new parents. It still requires patience, but it feels less like a battle. Also, distracting them with a favorite toy or singing a quick song during the process can sometimes buy you those precious few seconds you need to get the job done without too much fuss. And then there's the packing! Oh, the joys of moving with a little one. My initial goal for Vlogmas Day 9 was to make significant headway, but as my OCR noted, it was definitely 'slow progress'. It feels like every time I manage to pack a box, another pile of baby clothes or toys magically appears right next to it. It’s a never-ending cycle! What I’ve realized is that packing with a baby isn't just about organizing items; it’s about navigating constant interruptions and finding small, precious windows of opportunity. I’ve started dedicating short, focused bursts – maybe 15-20 minutes during nap time or when my partner can keep the baby entertained. Instead of tackling entire rooms, I focus on even smaller categories, like 'all the kitchen utensils' or 'only summer clothes'. It feels so much less overwhelming, and those small wins really do add up. I’ve also found it incredibly helpful to create an 'essentials box' that stays unpacked until the very last minute, containing things like the baby's favorite blanket, a few key toys, snacks, and all our toiletries. This way, even if everything else is chaotic, we have immediate access to what we need. It's definitely 'what we're working with' these days – a mix of chaos and determination! And for anyone else facing a move with little ones, remember to declutter ruthlessly before you even start packing. Less stuff means less to pack! I've been trying to get rid of things we haven't used in months, especially baby items they've outgrown. It's tough, but so worth it in the long run. My 'slow progress' might be frustrating, but I’m telling myself it’s an opportunity to truly streamline our belongings. It's all about managing expectations and celebrating the small wins, even if it means only getting one box packed in an entire afternoon. This whole Vlogmas journey, especially with late uploads and days packed with 'a lot to do today,' really highlights how challenging it can be to keep up with daily life, parenting, and content creation. It's a reminder that not every day is picture-perfect, and sometimes, 'slow progress' is still progress. It’s okay to have days where you just do your best, and that’s truly enough. I’m learning to be kinder to myself during this busy period, embracing the imperfections, and finding joy in the small moments, even if they involve wrestling with tiny toenails or staring at half-packed boxes. It’s all part of the journey, and I appreciate you all following along!
