The 90s childhood experience vs raising kids today

Gen Z brought back the clothes.... but they missed the parenting experience. 😂

We left the house with: ✏️ a backpack

🚲 a bike and sometimes in someone's car

📞 absolutely no way for our parents to find us

Somehow we survived.

But this back~to~school mom is VERY thankful for phones, school apps, calender reminders, emails, notifications, knowing where my kids are and approximately 47 things to remember before Monday morning. 🤣. 🤣📚

... Read moreGrowing up in the 90s was truly a different experience compared to parenting today. Back then, we had far fewer safety nets—just a backpack, a bike, and the freedom to roam without constant check-ins. Our parents had no way to track our whereabouts or instantly communicate with us, which meant we learned to be independent and resourceful. Despite this lack of supervision, we somehow managed to survive and thrive. Nowadays, parenting involves juggling multiple digital tools—smartphones, school apps, calendar reminders, emails, and notifications. As a parent myself, I find this overwhelming but also incredibly reassuring. Technology has upgraded our safety plan tremendously, offering peace of mind about our children's location and well-being. The complexity of managing dozens of tasks before a school day feels like a modern rite of passage. One thing my kids will never understand is the sheer freedom we had without GPS trackers or instant messaging. Our adventures were spontaneous, and sometimes risky, but they created lifelong memories and resilience. It’s interesting to see how Gen Z has revived 90s fashion trends, yet they may miss the experiential part of growing up without digital safety nets. Balancing nostalgia and embracing modern parenting tools is a challenge many of us face. Reflecting on these differences not only highlights how much has changed but also helps us appreciate the unique aspects of each generation’s upbringing. Whether it’s the simplicity of riding a bike alone or the practicality of a phone that offers dozens of reminders, each era has its own value in shaping childhood experiences.
