Here’s to raising kids who don’t dim their light 💡
When I was in grade 3, I wanted to join the school choir so badly. My teacher said I could join, but told me I wasn’t allowed to sing during competitions I was only supposed to lip sync. I was 8, and that moment crushed my confidence when it came to singing. This memory has stuck with me for decades.
To this day, I still love singing… but mostly only do it in the car, the shower or when I'm singing with my kids.
So when my daughter belts out “Clang clang rattle bing bang” at the top of her lungs, I let her,
I cheer for her and I sing along with her!
Because I never want her to believe her voice doesn’t matter. I want her to grow up with the confidence to sing and dance like nobody is watching and if someone does try to shatter her confidence she'll have the courage to speak up and will know that she is a rockstar no matter what anyone says! By the way, isn't she adorable in her bride outfit. 💕
If you grew up quieting your voice, maybe this is your reminder, that you can still find it again.
💭 Do you ever notice moments where you parent differently because of your own childhood?

So many of us were taught to whisper when we wanted to sing...here's to breaking that cycle. 🥂
