The pros of growing up in a strict black household
Although there was some negative effects of growing up in a strict black household, I WILL say that there are some things that I am so grateful for especially NOW living in this social media era, where people just have a hard time separating reality, I don’t think I could’ve made it had it not been for my kind of raising.
1. I respect my elders. As simple as that sounds, I truly value giving respect to my elders at all times. I think we don’t value that enough these days . Even if I don’t agree with them I was taught how to speak with respect. I can communicate how I feel or how they make me feel without being disrespectful.
2. I have manners. I will get up out of my seat to give for another , I will open doors (yes even as a woman), I will easily give my last, I don’t have a problem with making sure others are okay.
3. Clean is not clean until its gospel Saturday morning Clean. I HATED cleaning back then , but NOW?? When I tell you I love the WAY that I know how to clean because I can get down with a tooth brush and I trust my own things. I know that my clean is CLEAN! (On the downside I don’t trust other peoples cleaning or cooking) lol but as a mother and a wife it benefits me
4. I am resilient . Growing up strict you had to have tough skin! There’s not much that can get to me. So many people get cyber bullied and care so much of what others think but those things truly don’t bother me because of how I was raised
5. I can adapt to any situation. Growing up we know how to make a dollar out of 15 cent . And that’s helped me. Although my household is fine, I know how to make a full course meal with just $10 if need be. Change doesn’t make me stress out because I’m flexible I know how to shift.
6. I’m brave and driven. I grew up seeing the adults pounding the pavement and making it happen for their families even when they didn’t have much. This makes me feel like there’s NOTHING I can’t do. It took me a while even in marriage to allow my husband to be my husband lol I thought I could do everything because I’d done it before. But it also makes me feel like the sky is the limit . There’s no social media boundaries that can keep me from getting where I know God wants me .
7. I’m tenacious. I know how to work hard. I have endurance and don’t get tired easily . I know trouble don’t last always . It will take more than a few things to go wrong in order to break me. I know how to tuck my head and keep pushing until I see the fruit of my labor .
8. Not talking while an adult is talking was something that was annoying to be as a kid but it has become one of the most underrated skills now. Learning to control your facial expressions, listening instead Of always wanting to be the talking, & not to mention being a great observer
I’m sure many people can resonate with this. And knowing this is why I give grace to these new kids cus they just couldn’t get it. They didn’t have the same experience so they don’t have that same grit to pull from. But I’m very thankful for mine even if there are some things I have to navigate I wouldn’t change it .
