My 34 week prenatal appointment came with A LOT of emotions this week. My new provider has my first appointment scheduled for 39 weeks so that means I’ll be missing my group B testing and I will not know where baby is at growth wise for a whole month. I am feeling every emotion at once but I’m working on trying to get in to see the doctor sooner 🥲 not really how I thought this would go…

... Read moreSwitching healthcare providers late in pregnancy can be a significant source of stress, especially around the 34-week mark when key prenatal assessments like the Group B Streptococcus testing and growth scans are traditionally scheduled. Missing these appointments may raise concerns about the baby’s development and overall pregnancy monitoring. Growth scans in the third trimester are essential for tracking fetal growth and identifying any abnormalities that could affect delivery planning. An abnormal growth scan, as indicated by slowed or uneven fetal growth, warrants prompt follow-up and monitoring to mitigate any risks. Pregnant individuals are advised to communicate their concerns clearly with their new provider to expedite appointments and testing whenever possible. Emotional well-being is equally important during this transitional period. Feelings of anxiety and uncertainty are natural, but pregnant persons should seek support through healthcare providers, midwives, or trusted support networks. Accessing resources such as prenatal counseling or pregnancy support groups can help in processing these emotions. For those experiencing a delayed prenatal appointment or concerns about fetal growth, it’s critical to know the signs that require immediate medical attention. These include reduced fetal movements, severe abdominal pain, or unusual symptoms. Timely communication with healthcare providers and advocating for earlier consultations can improve pregnancy outcomes. Overall, maintaining an informed and proactive approach during late pregnancy appointments, including understanding the implications of growth scans and provider changes, contributes to better prenatal care and emotional resilience.
