The Assassins Blade By Sarah J Maas

Rate : 3.5 out of 5 stars

I don’t really have a lot to say about this one as I listened / read this one. I wasn’t a huge fan of the in 3rd person and not their own POV.

Calaena Sardothien is a bad b**** though. Her journey through this book was absolutely gut wrenching but so inspirational. She never backed down, she never walked away & she always held her head high. I loved how she saved 200+ slaves from the pirate king & how she treated ansel.

As well as… have some choice words for cutting Sam out this early. I absolutely adored him & how he fought for his love for her. We stand by hating the assassins guild and Arobynn Hamel. He needs to be gone. PERIOD

... Read moreSarah J. Maas' The Assassin's Blade is a compelling set of novellas that dive deep into the backstory of Calaena Sardothien, the protagonist of the popular Throne of Glass series. This collection showcases her origins, her strength, and the challenges she faces within a dangerous, politically intricate world. Readers will appreciate the complex portrayal of Calaena as a warrior—unyielding and courageous—especially in moments like rescuing over 200 slaves from the pirate king, an act that exemplifies her unwavering pride and resilience. This novella also explores critical relationships that shape Calaena’s path, particularly with characters like Ansel and Sam. The emotional depth given to these bonds adds layers to the story, though some fans express disappointment at how certain characters are sidelined early in the narrative, notably Sam. His devotion and struggle to fight for Calaena’s love make his absence felt. Set against the backdrop of The Assassin's Guild, the story critiques the shadowy society's control and influence, with figures such as Arobynn Hamel embodying the darker forces Calaena resists. The novella's third-person perspective brings its own challenges and benefits, offering an overview of the broader world and character interactions but occasionally distancing readers from Calaena’s intimate thoughts. The Assassin's Blade enriches the Throne of Glass universe by providing rich narratives packed with action, emotional conflict, and the complexities of alliances and enmities. For readers looking for dark fantasy with a strong female lead, this work offers both thrilling escapades and poignant character development. Additionally, the recognition of The Assassin's Blade as a #1 New York Times bestseller attests to its popularity and quality, drawing in fans of fantasy and adventure alike.

These aren’t even all of them… but just a few fave moments while reading. I rated this 4/5 ⭐️✨ I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. I thought since this was a prequel I wouldn’t be as invested in the plot and want to go back to the previous plot instead. What I like about this book
