Beginner retinol by Obagi Medical
Product gifted by BeautyPass and Obagi Medical in exchange for my honest review.
If you're looking for a gentle retinol formula that will help with acne or fine lines, let me introduce you to the Obagi 360 Retinol .5% cream by Obagi Medical. This is a super gentle starter formula for anyone approaching their late 20's or early 30's looking to introduce retinol to their routine. One pump is meant to cover your entire face, and this is to keep it from causing dry patches. But for me personally, it felt like I had to pick and choose where to apply the cream since there was not enough in one full pump to cover my entire face. So you can see in the video that I focused on applying the cream to my forehead area, and laugh lines. A second pump would have been helpful to cover my neck area as well, but I wanted to see how far one pump would go for my face. I can say, doing the sandwich method of an actives free cream before and after retinol will also help prevent dry patches. You all should know by now I'm a dry patch expert with my eczema flakes I often get on my face. Lastly, there were no artificial fragrances in the formula which is another win. I loved the texture of this cream as well! Both smooth and creamy at the same time. Not too thick or too thin.

Okay, so we've talked about how amazing the Obagi 360 Retinol 0.5% Cream is, especially for those of us with sensitive skin or who are just starting out with retinol. But let me dive a little deeper into why this particular formula stands out and how to really get the most out of it! If you're like me and have sensitive skin, or even deal with eczema, the word 'retinol' can sound intimidating. That's why this Obagi 0.5% retinol is such a game-changer. It's formulated with unique time-release technology. This means the retinol isn't delivered all at once, which can cause irritation. Instead, it's released gradually throughout the night, making it incredibly gentle yet effective for issues like acne or stubborn fine lines without causing a major skin freak-out. Many of you might be wondering about the difference between retinol and tretinoin, especially since queries like 'tretinoin obagi' are common. Tretinoin is a prescription-strength retinoid, much more potent than over-the-counter retinols like this Obagi 360. While tretinoin can offer quicker, more dramatic results, it also comes with a higher risk of irritation and a longer 'retinization' period. For someone looking for a powerful yet gentle option, or who isn't ready for prescription strength, this Obagi 0.5% retinol is an excellent choice. It’s a fantastic stepping stone that still delivers impressive benefits like improved skin texture and elasticity. Now, let's talk application. The original article mentions one pump for the entire face, and the OCR confirms this is their recommendation for a gentle start. However, if you're prone to dryness, the sandwich method is your best friend! Here’s how I do it: I apply a thin layer of a basic, hydrating moisturizer (one that's free of active ingredients) first. Then, I apply my one pump of Obagi 360 Retinol, focusing on areas like my forehead and laugh lines. Finally, I follow up with another layer of that same soothing moisturizer. This method creates a buffer, locking in moisture and helping to prevent those pesky dry patches. For those searching for 'obagi moisturizer,' any gentle, nourishing cream with ingredients like dimethicone or shea butter (which are also in the Obagi retinol itself!) would be a perfect companion. Another huge win for this formula, as the OCR highlights, is the inclusion of soothing and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Beyond the moisturizing components, it features green tea, chamomile, calendula (marigold), and white tea. These natural extracts work wonders to calm the skin and reduce potential redness, making the retinol experience even more comfortable. It's these thoughtful additions that truly make it suitable for sensitive skin. Priced at around $79, as noted in the OCR, it's an investment that truly delivers. You can often find it on Obagi.com or through authorized skincare retailers. Remember, consistency is key with retinol. Start slowly, perhaps 2-3 times a week, and gradually increase as your skin adjusts. Your skin will thank you for it!
