Going through labor and delivery is a profound experience that varies greatly from one mother to another. Although I initially hoped for a natural labor without an epidural and to go full term, my body had other plans. At 38 weeks and 3 days, I was induced due to preeclampsia, a condition characterized by high blood pressure and other complications that posed risks to me and my baby. The induction process can be physically and emotionally demanding. My water broke when I was only 2 cm dilated, which added to the complexity of the situation. I also experienced intense shakes and chills, symptoms related to the fluctuations in my blood pressure. Despite these hurdles, I was able to have a vaginal delivery, which was a big relief and joy for me. Throughout this journey, having faith and feeling supported were crucial. I truly believe that divine care guided us through each step, strengthening my resolve when times got tough. Being a new mom comes with its own set of challenges, but reflecting on this experience, I would do it all over again for my baby. If you are expecting or about to face labor, it’s important to remember that labor does not always go as planned, but staying informed and having a supportive medical team makes a significant difference. Preeclampsia requires close monitoring and sometimes early induction, but many women go on to have healthy deliveries and babies. For those seeking a natural birth, it might not always be possible, and that’s okay. Epidurals and medical interventions are there to make the process safer for both mom and baby.
