This is a teen horror book

2024/7/18 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so I just finished K.R. Alexander's 'The Collected' and wow, this book seriously messed with my head in the best possible way! I picked it up because I heard it was about creepy dolls, and let me tell you, it delivered on every single eerie promise. If you've been searching for a detailed summary of this chilling teen horror novel, you've come to the right place. From the moment I saw the cover with those broken doll heads and limbs, I knew I was in for a treat. The tagline, "They watch. They wait. They destroy." immediately set the tone, and I was hooked. K.R. Alexander, published by Scholastic, really knows how to craft a truly unsettling atmosphere. The story centers around Anna, and her connection to dolls is anything but sweet. The book's first line itself is chilling, pulling you right into her world. What starts as a seemingly innocent collection quickly spirals into something far more sinister. I remember reading about a specific scene where she walks down a hallway filled with hundreds of dolls – some broken, some staring – and the description was so vivid, I could almost feel their eyes on me. It’s not just a few dolls; it’s an overwhelming, unsettling presence, with doll parts turning up in the most unexpected places, adding to the growing dread. Alexander does an incredible job building the suspense. You know something is wrong, but you can’t quite put your finger on it until it's too late. The idea of a seemingly inanimate object possessing such malevolent intent is genuinely terrifying. The book really explores that primal fear of things that aren't what they seem, especially when they're supposed to be comforting objects from childhood. Towards the end, the tension ratchets up significantly. Without giving away too many spoilers, let's just say a demonic entity, often manifesting through one particularly unsettling doll, tries to cause some serious havoc. The protagonist, Anna, has to face this terrifying force head-on. The struggle is intense, and I was on the edge of my seat wondering how she could possibly defeat something so powerful and pervasive. Ultimately, she manages to overcome it, and things seem to return to normal, but the lingering question of whether true normal can ever really be restored after such an ordeal is what makes this book so memorable. 'The Collected' is a perfect read for anyone who loves a good scare, especially if you have a soft spot for haunted objects or psychological horror. K.R. Alexander has a knack for creating stories that stick with you, much like their other works such as 'The Collector,' 'The Fear Zone,' and 'The Undrowned.' If you're looking for a teen horror book that delivers genuine chills and a compelling plot, I highly recommend adding 'The Collected' to your reading list. Just don't say I didn't warn you about those dolls!
