Last work day in Shanghai

Today, colleagues stop by my desk to say goodbye.

There's a card on my keyboard. Flowers from the team.

I have to pause so I don't cry in front of everyone.

This is what they don't tell you about global work — you leave pieces of yourself everywhere.

... Read moreLeaving a city like Shanghai after spending significant time at work here brings a whirlwind of emotions. As I reflect on my experience, I realize how much this place and my colleagues have shaped not just my professional growth but also my personal outlook. Starting from that first day feeling nervous, to now feeling grateful on my last, I've come to appreciate the unique blend of culture and work life that Shanghai offers. The office environment is full of energy and innovation, but it's the people that create memories. Saying goodbye in person, with colleagues stopping by my desk, handing me flowers, and sharing kind words, reveals the deeply human side of global work life. One of the things that struck me is how global work makes you leave pieces of yourself in different corners of the world. Those connections, shared challenges, and celebrations form an intangible tapestry of relationships that last beyond any single job or location. This journey taught me to value gratitude, adaptability, and the strength found in community. Carrying those memories back with me, I now look forward to the next chapter, knowing that places like Shanghai and colleagues turned friends have enriched my global experience in ways that only personal immersion can provide.
